IPL 2020: 3 Players who can replace Chris Woakes at Delhi Capitals

Chris Woakes will no longer be a part of IPL 2020

Delhi Capitals have been dealt with a major blow ahead of the upcoming IPL season. English all-rounder Chris Woakes has pulled his name out of IPL 2020. The all-rounder aims to remain fit for the English Summer, and as a result, has withdrawn his name from participating in the IPL. Woakes, who was picked by Delhi Capitals in the IPL auction 2020 for an auction price of INR 1.3 Crores will longer be a part of the thirteenth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

While Delhi haven’t named any replacement yet for the all-rounder, it is likely that the Delhi-based franchise might ponder over roping in a like-to-like replacement ahead of their season opener against Punjab on March 30.

Here, we take a look at 3 players who can replace Chris Woakes in Delhi Capitals’ squad before IPL 2020:

1. Colin de Grandhomme

New Zealand all-rounder, Colin de Grandhomme might fancy getting a call-up as a replacement for Chris Woakes from the Delhi Capitals camp. The Kiwi all-rounder had failed to induce any bid in the IPL auction and went unsold at his base price of INR 75 lakhs. However, he has always been recognized as a handy cricketer who can contribute in both the aspects of the game. He could be a perfect replacement to Woakes, as someone who can slog in the end and can even chip in with few overs of seam bowling.

2. Liam Plunkett

Plunkett made his IPL debut for Delhi in 2018

The discarded English seamer, Liam Plunkett has been out of favor ever since England’s World Cup win in 2019. Plunkett, who is a wily customer with the ball, is a perfect product for limited-overs internationals. Delhi Capitals might think over his name as a replacement to Woakes in IPL 2020. The pitch at Delhi’s home ground will certainly suit Plunkett who tends to bring in his variations with cross-seam deliveries.

3. Ben Cutting

Australian all-rounder Ben Cutting is another player who can replace Chris Woakes in Delhi Capitals’ squad in IPL 2020. Cutting, who is a T20 freelancer, tends to ply his trade for various franchises in T20 leagues around the globe. Currently, he’s involved playing for Quetta Gladiators in PSL 2020. His form with the bat has already helped his franchise win a game from nowhere. He can strike the ball a fair distance and bowls decent off-cutters to support his cause.
