Ever since VIVO withdrew itself as IPL 2020 title sponsor, a lot of Indian companies are in a race to claim the IPL title sponsorship rights for 2020. In order to claim the rights for 2020, BCCI invited third parties to express their interest (EOI) in acquiring the title sponsorship rights for the Indian Premier League 2020. The IPL sponsorship rights will be available for a period between August 18, 2020, to December 31, 2020
With BCCI expected to announce the IPL title sponsor for 2020 by August 18, here’s a look at 5 Indian companies which might win the IPL title sponsorship rights for 2020:
Ever since the news regarding the availability of IPL sponsorship rights broke out, Patanjali has been touted as the front-runners to claim the rights for this year’s tournament. Promoted by Yoga Guru Ramdev, Patanjali has shown interest in claiming the rights for IPL 2020.
The company believes it as a step to promote the nationwide running “Aatmanirbhar Bharat” initiative which aims to promote the concept of self-reliance in India. However, the thought of Pantanjali being the IPL’s title sponsor was dealt with in a hilarious fashion across social media. Memes portraying Patanjali IPL were seen trending on most social media platforms.

Byju’s, the official Team India sponsor, is also speculated to enter the race for claiming the IPL 2020 title sponsorship rights. The learning app, Byju’s inked a three-year deal with BCCI in September 2019 to continue as Team India official sponsor until March 2022. Being one of the leading online firms in India, it won’t be any surprise if Byju’s claim the prestigious IPL rights for 2020.
3. Tata Sons
Entering as late as a few days back, Tata Sons has also sought interest in bidding for IPL’s title sponsorship rights this year. Being one of India’s most reputed companies for years now, Tata is already an official partner with the IPL. And if the sources are to be believed, Tata might be the favourites in walking away with the IPL’s title sponsorship rights.

India’s leading telecom brand, founded by Mukesh Ambani, Jio is already an official partner with the IPL. However, the Indian company is quite keen on investing as the title sponsor for this year’s IPL. With a turnover in excess of INR 300 crores, Jio will be one of the most suitable partners for the BCCI. However, Jio’s parent company, Reliance is also the owner of IPL franchise Mumbai Indians which might lead to a conflict of interest in this case.
The e-learning app, Unacademy is also reported to have bid for IPL’s title sponsorship rights in 2020. Unacademy, which also sponsored the Road Safety tournament in Mumbai earlier this year, has leapfrogged as one of the leading education platforms in the country. With some of the biggest names including Tata Sons, Jio, and Patanjali in the reckoning, Unacademy might just fall short in the race to surpass the other bids.
