Bangladesh vs England: What happened in their last meeting?
Bangladesh beat England by 50 runs when the two teams last met in ODIs earlier this year in March at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram. Although the match was a dead rubber, the Tigers showed how good they can be in limited-overs cricket.
After being put in to bat first, Bangladesh were bowled out for 246 in 48.5 overs. Mushfiqur Rahim, Najmul Hossain Shanto and Shakib Al Hasan scored 70, 53 and 75 respectively. But apart from the middle-order stalwarts, none of the Bangladesh batters could even get a start.
Jofra Archer was the pick of the English bowlers after he picked up three crucial wickets of Shakib, Taijul Islam and Mustafizur Rahman. Sam Curran and Adil Rashid accounted for two scalps apiece. Barring Moeen Ali, all the other English bowlers chipped in with at least one wicket.
England struggled throughout their run-chase and were bowled out for 196 in 43.1 overs. Plenty of their batters got into 20s and 30s, but none of them were able to make their starts count. After Jason Roy and Phil Salt put on 54 runs for the opening wicket, England kept losing wickets at regular intervals.
Shakib Al Hasan was arguably the standout bowler for the Tigers. He got the wickets of Roy, Salt, James Vince to rock the English top order after which he returned to pick up his fourth scalp in the form of Rehan Ahmed.
Taijul Islam and Ebadot Hossain gave Shakib the support he needed. Taijul and Ebadot picked up two wickets apiece. Mustafizur Rahman and Mehidy Hasan Miraz got the wickets of Chris Woakes and Sam Curran respectively.
Shakib won the award for the Player of the Match after he made life tough for the opposition both with bat and ball.
