Afghanistan vs England Match 13 ODI Dream11 prediction match today – ICC World Cup 2023

Afghanistan vs England, Match 13 ICC World Cup
15 October 2023, 2:00pm IST, Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi

Here's our Afghanistan vs England Dream11 prediction before the two teams collide in the ICC ODI World Cup 2023.

The match no. 13 of the tournament will have Afghanistan (AFG) and England (ENG) go against each other in Delhi on 15 October. This will be a day-night fixture, scheduled to begin at 2:00 PM IST.

Afghanistan are one of the weaker sides in the tournament and they have only won one game in three World Cup tournament appearances. They came into this edition with bigger hopes due to the familiar conditions but haven't had a great start. Afghanistan have lost both their games in the tournament so far.

The reigning and defending champions England had a painful start to their title defence with New Zealand absolutely decimating them. The Jos Buttler-led side managed to beat Bangladesh in the second game to open their account on the points table.

The contest is crucial for both the teams as Afghanistan are desperate to leave their mark on the tournament while England can not afford any more slip-ups if they are to move up the points table.

Afghanistan vs England Match Preview

Afghanistan

Following their six-wicket loss to Bangladesh in the opening game, Afghanistan took an eight-wicket beating at the hands of India in the second game, leaving them with no points.

In the match that took place at this same venue, Hashmatullah Shahidi top scored with 80 off 88 deliveries while Azmatullah Omarzai made 62 off 69. The pair added 121 runs for the fourth wicket and were looking likely to get 300 or more. But they lost wickets at the back end and were restricted to 272.

The bowling unit was then taken apart by Rohit Sharma, who blasted 131 off 84.

Afghanistan will fancy themselves against England who don't have as potent a bowling unit as India and can be vulnerable against spin. The spin trio of Rashid Khan, Mujeeb Ur Rahman and Mohammad Nabi will be key for Afghanistan.

England

The world champions suffered a humiliating nine-wicket defeat against New Zealand in the opening game before beating Bangladesh by 137 runs.

Dawid Malan was outstanding with the bat against Bangladesh, where he struck 140 off just 107 balls. Joe Root scored 82 off 68, while Jonny Bairstow made a fifty. It looked like they could get 400 but England couldn't get a good finish, posting 364. It was still more than enough as Reece Topley ran through the Bangladesh batting unit with 4 for 43.

Ben Stokes missed the first two games of the tournament due to a hip injury. If he returns, it will bolster England's batting unit. They could make one change in the bowling department, resting Mark Wood and bringing in Gus Atkinson.

Pitch Report and Expected Weather Conditions for Afghanistan vs England

Arun Jaitley Stadium, Pitch Report: The pitches at the Arun Jaitley Stadium have historically been slow and spin-friendly. However, this tournament has seen excellent batting pitches in two games played here. One of the games witnessed the record runs aggregate in a World Cup game.

Expect big scores from batters with a flat pitch and short boundaries, making run-scoring easy. Bowlers, on the other hand, could have a tough time.

Matches Won Batting Second: 15

Average First Innings Score: 231
Average Second Innings Score: 209

Expected Weather Condition: The weather in Delhi is likely to be partly sunny and warm on October 15th afternoon. It could get partly cloudy in the evening but there's no threat of rain. The temperature should range between 27 to 36 degree Celsius.

Under lights, the ball could move around a bit more, but in general, this has been a batting haven for batters this tournament and if England opt to bat first, their only threat should remain the impeccable Rashid Khan. Afghanistan, on the other hand, will want to bat first and look to set a total to unleash their spinners under lights against England. With the conditions on offer, the Afghan openers will also want to ensure they start quicker than they usually do.

Considering how the pitches have behaved in the two games at Arun Jaitley Stadium this tournament, you can bank on batters and all-rounders in our Dream11 team for this match.

We have picked the above team with an assumption that the pitch will be batting-friendly. It gives us seven genuine batting options and four bowling options to take wickets.

Being the better side of the two, we have picked all of England's top five batters. If Ben Stokes does not feature in this game as well, you can replace him with Harry Brook. Joe Root, Dawid Malan, Jonny Bairstow and Jos Buttler are must picks from the England side.

We have also picked three English bowlers in Reece Topley, Adil Rashid and Gus Atkinson. If Wood plays, picking him is a no-brainer as he is almost guaranteed to take wickets.

From Afghanistan, we have selected the opening pair Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran in our Dream11 prediction. Hashmatullah Shahidi did well in the last game but we expect England to neutralize Afghanistan's middle order. Rashid Khan will be a key player in this game and could pick a few wickets.

Joe Root has scored 77 and 82 in the first two games and is England's best batter against spin. Dawid Malan was terrific in the last game with a century to set up England's win. You can back these two as the captain or vice-captain for this game.

Afghanistan vs England Dream11 prediction: England to win

Afghanistan will be hoping for a spin-friendly pitch, given their strengths. England remain favourites due to their batting unit, which is considerably stronger than that of Afghanistan. England have a better and more all-round bowling attack, but we predict Afghanistan to win this match.
