Chennai Super Kings vs Sunrisers Hyderabad match preview
Chennai Super Kings
The Super Kings, led by MS Dhoni, are currently placed third in the table with six points and a net run rate of +0.265 courtesy of wins in three out of five games. They will be high on confidence after beating Faf du Plessis’ Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) by eight runs in their previous match.
Devon Conway became the Player of the Match after he scored 83 runs off 45 balls with the help of six fours and as many sixes. Shivam Dube was also brisk in his knock, having scored 52 off 27 with two fours and five sixes. The duo put on 80 runs for the third wicket.
On the back of their knocks, CSK posted a massive score of 226 for six, their highest against RCB in the history of the T20 league.
Faf du Plessis and Glenn Maxwell gave CSK an almighty scare with a 126-run stand for the third wicket. But with 19 runs to defend off the last over, Matheesha Pathirana bowled beautifully to take CSK over the finish line. Tushar Dehpande also accounted for three scalps.
CSK possible XI: Devon Conway, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ajinkya Rahane, Shivam Dube, Ambati Rayudu, Moeen Ali, Ravindra Jadeja, MS Dhoni (c & wk), Maheesh Theekshana, Tushar Deshpande, Matheesha Pathirana
Sunrisers Hyderabad
The Sunrisers, led by Aiden Markram, are placed ninth in the table with four points and a net run rate of -0.798. After two wins on the trot against the Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), they lost to Rohit Sharma’s Mumbai Indians (MI) by 14 runs in their previous match.
After being put in to field, SRH bowlers faltered to some extent as MI scored 192 for the loss of five wickets in 20 overs. Marco Jansen picked up two wickets but leaked 43 runs in his spell. Cameron Green’s 64 and Tilak Varma’s 37 pushed them back.
Mayank Agarwal scored 48 runs at the top after which Heinrich Klaasen made 36 runs off 16 balls. But their efforts went in vain. With 20 runs needed off the last over, SRH could only collect five runs off Arjun Tendulkar.
SRH possible XI: Mayank Agarwal, Harry Brook, Rahul Tripathi, Aiden Markram (c), Heinrich Klaasen (wk), Abhishek Sharma, Washington Sundar, Marco Jansen, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mayank Markande, T Natarajan
Pitch and expected weather conditions
The pitch in Chennai has been batting friendly, but the bowlers, especially the spinners, have had their say. Scores above the 160-run mark may not be all that easy to chase down. There is no chance of rain as of now. Temperatures will be around the 31-degree Celsius mark.

Toss prediction: Super Kings to win the toss and field first
The Super Kings lost to the Royals while chasing in their previous game, but they were in the game until the last ball. The pitch has been kind to batters and CSK should field first after winning the toss.
Man of the match prediction: Ruturaj Gaikwad
Ruturaj Gaikwad has been in pretty good form in IPL 2023. The right-handed batter has notched 200 runs from five matches at an average of 50 and a strike-rate of 150.38. Gaikwad has also looked pretty decent with the bat in hand in matches at the Chepauk. He is one of the batter the Sunrisers should be wary of.
Betting Odds
- Chennai Super Kings: 1.750
- Sunrisers Hyderabad: 2.150
As per the bookies, the Chennai Super Kings are clear favorites against the Sunrisers. Our prediction is also the same. The Sunrisers are yet to win at the Chepauk and beating CSK on their own turf may not be easy by any stretch of the imagination. The Yellow Army should win the match comfortably.
