The Delhi-based franchise is one of the eight founding teams in the IPL. The franchise began as Delhi Daredevils in IPL 2008 before opting to change its name in December 2018 to Delhi Capitals (DC). The Delhi franchise began on a bright note in the inaugural IPL season after reaching the Semi-final but has failed to win an IPL trophy ever since. With the change in name and ownership, Delhi Capitals has witnessed two of its best years in IPL since 2018.
Under the leadership of Shreyas Iyer, Delhi finished third in 2019 before making their maiden IPL final appearance in 2020. However, the Capitals couldn’t get their hands on the elusive IPL trophy. In the last two years, Delhi has emerged as the most improved IPL franchise. The on-field performance has helped the franchise grow in terms of its popularity among the fans and gain financial impetus in its brand value.
