Reliance Industries (RIL) is the owner of Mumbai Indians in the IPL. The Mumbai-based franchise was bought in 2008 by Reliance Industries for a whopping price of $111.9 million. This was the most expensive bid made for any of the eight IPL teams ahead of the inaugural season. Mukesh Ambani, the owner of RIL, acquired the rights to the franchise for a period of 10 years.
Mukesh Ambani, the chairman and MD of Reliance Industries is the largest stakeholder in the company. His wife, Nita Ambani, is the Co-owner of RIL and represents the face of the franchise as the Mumbai Indians MI owner. She is extensively involved in the activities surrounding the franchise. However, in IPL 2020, like all other teams, MI witnessed a dip of 5.9% in their brand value from the previous year. Despite that fact, the franchise was ranked atop of the list with a value nearing INR 761 Crores after the IPL 2020.
