Royal Challengers Bangalore vs match preview
Royal Challengers Bangalore
The Challengers, led by Faf du Plessis, are placed seventh in the table with four points and a net run rate of -0.316. After two defeats on the trot against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), RCB beat the Delhi Capitals (DC) by 23 runs.
After being put in to bat first, RCB racked up a decent score of 174 for the loss of six wickets in 20 overs. Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis laid the platform with a partnership of 42 runs for the opening wicket off 4.4 overs. Kohli carried on his decent run of form after he scored 50 runs off 34 balls before being dismissed by Lalit Yadav.
Mahipal Lomror, Glenn Maxwell and Shahbaz Ahmed scored 26, 24 and 20 not out respectively to take RCB past the 170-run mark. Anuj Rawat strained a bit, having scored only 15 runs off 22 balls.
Thereafter, RCB restricted the Capitals to 151 for the loss of nine wickets. Debutant Vijaykumar Vyshak finished with impressive figures of 4-0-20-3. It all started with Rawat’s stupendous throw to run out Prithvi Shaw for a duck at the non-striker’s end.
Mitchell Marsh, David Warner, and Yash Dhull also perished early. Although Manish Pandey scored a half-century, it was not enough for DC to go past the finish line.
RCB possible XI: Virat Kohli, Faf du Plessis (c), Mahipal Lomror, Glenn Maxwell, Shahbaz Ahmed, Dinesh Karthik (wk), Wanindu Hasaranga, Harshal Patel, Wayne Parnell, Mohammed Siraj, Vijaykumar Vyshak
Chennai Super Kings
The Super Kings, led by MS Dhoni, are placed sixth in the table with four points and a net run rate of +0.225. They lost to the Rajasthan Royals (RR) by three runs in their previous game at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
The Royals put up a healthy score of 175 for the loss of eight wickets in 20 overs. Jos Buttler was their star performer with the bat after he scored 52 runs off 36 balls with the help of one four and three sixes. Devdutt Padikkal also showed his class, having scored 38 runs off 26 balls with five fours.
Sanju Samson got out for a duck, but Ravi Ashwin and Shimron Hetmyer scored 30 apiece to inject momentum into the RR innings. Akash Singh, Tushar Deshpande and Ravindra Jadeja picked up two wickets apiece.
Devon Conway and Ajinkya Rahane put on 68 runs for the second wicket, but CSK were hardly able to get themselves ahead of the rate. With 21 runs needed off the last over, MS Dhoni hit Sandeep Sharma for two sixes in a row, but they weren’t enough for CSK to secure victory at the Chepauk.
CSK possible XI: Devon Conway, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ajinkya Rahane, Moeen Ali, Shivam Dube, Ravindra Jadeja, MS Dhoni (c & wk), Sisanda Magala, Maheesh Theekshana, Tushar Deshpande, Akash Singh
Pitch and expected weather conditions
The pitch in Bangalore has been an absolute belter for batting. Bowlers won’t have much room for error and a fairly high-scoring match seems to be on the cards. There is no chance of rain for the time being. Playing conditions will be hot with temperatures around the 32-degree Celsius mark.

Match prediction: Royal Challengers Bangalore to win
RCB have been decent at home thus far. Their batters have looked ominous while playing at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium. The CSK bowlers aren’t in the greatest of forms and the RCB batters can take advantage of the same.
Toss prediction: RCB to win the toss and field first
RCB should opt to field first if they win the toss. Defending scores at the venue in Bangalore has been extremely tough for opponents.
Man of the match prediction: Faf Du Plessis
Faf du Plessis has been in decent enough form for the Challengers. Moreover, having played a few seasons for CSK, the veteran South African knows about their bowling unit. If he gets going, CSK bowlers may find it tough to stop them.
Betting Odds
- Royal Challengers Bangalore: 85
- Chennai Super Kings: 02
Just like us, the bookmakers also think that the Challengers have a better chance of winning the upcoming game. Can CSK turn the tables on Du Plessis’ men?
