Sunrisers Hyderabad vs Punjab Kings match preview

Sunrisers Hyderabad

The Sunrisers, led by Aiden Markram, have not had the most memorable run thus far in the tournament. The Orange Army are currently placed at the bottom of the table with a net run rate of -2.867 thanks to losses in both their matches thus far.

After losing to Sanju Samson’s Rajasthan Royals (RR) by 72 runs in their first home match, the Sunrisers faced a five-wicket defeat at the hands of KL Rahul’s Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on Friday.

After opting to bat first, the Sunrisers struggled their way to 121 for eight in 20 overs. Anmolpreet Singh and Rahul Tripathi scored 31 and 35 respectively but failed to carry on. Skipper Markram failed to get off to the mark after Krunal Pandya rattled his woodwork.

Abdul Samad hit two sixes in the final over to stay unbeaten on 21 and take the Sunrisers past the 120-run mark. The Super Giants chased down the target with four overs to spare. Adil Rashid picked up two wickets, but his efforts went in vain.

SRH possible XI: Mayank Agarwal, Abhishek Sharma, Rahul Tripathi, Aiden Markram, Harry Brook, Washington Sundar, Bhuvneshwar Kumar (c), Adil Rashid, T Natarajan, Umran Malik, Fazalhaq Farooqi

Punjab Kings

The Kings, led by Shikhar Dhawan, on the other hand, are placed third in the table with four points and a net run rate of +0.333 courtesy of victories in both of their matches. Both of their games against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Delhi Capitals (DC) went right down to the wire and both times, their bowlers held their nerve.

The Kings will go into the game after beating the Capitals by five runs at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. After being sent in to bat first, PBKS set a challenging target of 198 for their opponents to chase down. Prabhsimran Singh and Shikhar Dhawan laid the platform with a partnership of 90 runs for the opening wicket off 9.4 overs.

Singh was the more aggressive batter as he scored 60 runs off 34 balls with seven fours and three sixes before Jason Holder accounted for his wicket. Dhawan went on to stay unbeaten on 86 off 56 with nine fours and three sixes.

Jitesh Sharma also chipped in with a handy knock of 27 off 16. Thereafter, the Kings restricted the Royals to 192 for seven. Nathan Ellis was the star of the show for PBKS after he finished with impressive figures of 4-0-30-4. Ellis also won the Player of the Match award after he defended 16 runs off the last over.

PBKS possible XI: Shikhar Dhawan (c), Prabhsimran Singh, Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Jitesh Sharma (wk), Shahrukh Khan, Sam Curran, Sikandar Raza, Nathan Ellis, Harpreet Brar, Rahul Chahar, Arshdeep Singh

Pitch and expected weather conditions

The pitch in Hyderabad is expected to be an excellent one for batting as shown by Jos Buttler and Sanju Samson the other day. But fast bowlers and spinners will also have plenty on offer. There is no chance of rain for the time being and temperatures will be around the 32-degree Celsius mark.

Punjab Kings should opt to field first if they win the toss. Their batters are in good form and should be able to chase down big targets.

Man of the match prediction: Shikhar Dhawan

Shikhar Dhawan didn’t get the Player of the Match award last time around, but showed that he is still a force to be reckoned with. The southpaw will enjoy batting in Hyderabad.

  • Sunrisers Hyderabad: 2.104
  • Punjab Kings: 1.73

Like us, the bookmakers also think that Punjab Kings have a better chance of winning the upcoming match. Having won two matches in a row, Dhawan’s men will be pretty high on confidence. It remains to be seen if they can win their third match in a row in the tournament.
