Match Result – India Win
India have been the dominant force on home turf. After the disappointing early exit from the 2022 Asia Cup, India are pumped up for getting a victory in the game. It will be extremely difficult to overcome Australia, who have not suffered a serious defeat in the T20I version since their 2021 World Cup T20 success.
India top batter – Virat Kohli
Virat Kohli has been in stunning form in recent T20 games. After a splendid form at the Asia Cup, Kohli will be looking to scale new heights. He was able to come up with 276 runs at the Asia Cup in the five games – at a 92 average along with strike rate figures of more than 147. After struggling for centuries in the recent couple of years, Kohli was able to come up with a ton and two half centuries. Even though the team will continue to be reliant on other players as well, the form of Kohli is likely to make him the key figure in this game.
Tim David over 16.5 runs
Tim David has made a return to the squad to provide some much needed strength to the Australian middle order. He was able to come up with an incredible IPL in the recent campaign and his big exploits at the IPL are likely to be translated to mean better form in the T20I games as well. Due to the Australian team missing a number of key players for the game, there will be a lot of reliance upon David to shore up the attacking element of the team.
India v Australia: Match Preview
India and Australia face each other in a crucial three match T20 series just before the ICC T20 World Cup. This match will take place at the Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali on September 20.
India had a decent group stage at the Asia Cup but the team were quite disappointing in the Super-4 stages. The team were struggling to make an impact on pitches that favoured chasing teams more often than not. However, India can be a formidable opponent at home.
Australia are looking to continue their excellent run of never losing T20 series on Indian soil since 2007. Australia, though, are missing some key players while many of the star names are also not at the best of their form. This can provide a route for India to hit Australia where it matters and Australia might just end up suffering a series defeat for the first time since the 2021 T20 World Cup.
Head-to-Head: India vs Australia in T20I
India and Australia have come up against each other on 23 occasions in the T20 games. India had a slender advantage after picking up 13 victories compared to the nine wins managed by Australia. One of the 23 meetings in the T20 games between the two nations has finished as a ‘No Result’. Incidentally, the home team has picked up a victory on four occasions each while India playing as the away team have picked up seven victories compared to just three away for Australia. At the neutral venue, both teams have managed two wins each.
Pitch and Weather Conditions
The pitch is likely to be conducive for teams who elect the ball first. The two teams have been able to chase a target in three successful attempts out of the last five T20 games. Meanwhile, if the team has been batting first, both teams have only picked up two wins. The weather conditions are likely to be favourable for batsmen in the second innings even if the pitch may favour batsmen throughout the game. There is no rain expected for the game.
