It was one of the historic days for Pakistan cricket when the ‘Men in Green' inflicted a huge win over India in the Champions Trophy Final 2017. Batting first, Pakistan got off to a superb start as both their openers laid a foundation for the rest of the batters to follow. Fakhar Zaman emerged as the real star for Pakistan with his scintillating century against India in the Final. The Southpaw scored 114 runs off 106 deliveries. Pakistan posted a total of 338/4 in their 50 overs. The lower-order blitz courtesy of Mohammad Hafeez also propelled Pakistan to as strong flourish in the end.
Chasing 339 to retain their Champions Trophy crown, India didn't get off to the greatest of starts. The prolific run-scorers in India's top-3 were soon shown the way back to the pavilion. Mohammad Amir was superb to get things underway for Pakistan after he dismissed both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli inside the first three overs. He was the pick of the bowlers in the Final and returned with magical figures of 3/16 in his six overs. Soon after, the highest run-scorer in the Champions Trophy 2017, Shikhar Dhawan was also dismissed with just 33 runs on the board. Thereafter, it was a downslide and a flurry of wickets that derailed India's chase in the Final.
Despite Hardik Pandya's 43-ball 76, the Virat Kohli-led side was bundled out for a paltry score of 158 in 30.3 overs. As a result, Pakistan claimed the Final by a huge margin of 180 runs at The Oval in 2017. It was a moment of huge achievement for Pakistan cricket as they managed to take down India in one of the greatest turnarounds in an ICC event.
For his stupendous knock of 114, Fakhar Zaman was awarded the Man of the Match in the Final while Hassan Ali was named the Player of the tournament for picking 13 wickets in the entire competition.
