In view of the deadly pandemic, the T20 World Cup 2021 will have a squad limit of 30 members including players and the support staff. This move allows some of the fringe T20 players to feature in the squad and also have an opportunity to get a game at one of the stages during the event. Based upon that, we take a look at the possible players who can form India’s 23-man squad for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup in India.

Here’s a look at India’s possible squad for the T20 World Cup 2021:

Shikhar Dhawan Ravindra Jadeja Ishan Kishan Mohammad Shami
Virat Kohli Shardul Thakur Sanju Samson Bhuvneshwar Kumar
KL Rahul Washington Sundar Yuzvendra Chahal
Shreyas Iyer Axar Patel T Natarajan

Batters

Openers: Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, KL Rahul

Middle-Order: Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Shreyas Iyer

The Indian cricket team currently boasts of a strong array of batters to choose from in their starting XI. The team management will have a positive headache of leaving some equally good players out of the playing XI. The current form of Shikhar Dhawan has only added misery for the Indian skipper and the management in picking the best batting group.

The likes of Suryakumar Yadav, Shreyas Iyer are also in the mix for the middle-order spots while Rohit Sharma and skipper Virat Kohli are certainties in the playing XI. KL Rahul, being one of the best T20 players in the country, who might not even start in the XI, shows India’s strong batting group in the possible T20 World Cup squad.

Wicket-Keeper: Ishan Kishan, Rishabh Pant, Sanju Samson

The wicket-keeper department of the Indian cricket team in the white-ball format looks formidable with some strong backup option. Rishabh Pant will be a front-runner to make his way into the playing XI. However, Ishan Kishan and Sanju Samson will be waiting in the wings to pounce upon every opportunity that comes their way. Each of the three players comes with a great T20 reputation as great hitters of the cricket ball. Without a doubt, India will have enough options in the squad to fall back upon in the wicket-keeping department going into the T20 World Cup 2021.

All-Rounders: Hardik Pandya, Washington Sundar, Shardul Thakur, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel

All-rounders play a decisive role in the short-format game. It is because of their capacity to make a difference both with the bat and ball that they are highly valued in this format. India’s T20 World Cup squad 2021 is likely to possess a variety of all-rounders including the likes of Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Shardul Thakur, and Washington Sundar. The tall left-arm spinner in Axar Patel will also make for a robust No.8 in the batting order.

Bowlers

Spinners: Yuzvendra Chahal, Rahul Chahar, Varun Chakravarthy

Fast Bowlers: Deepak Chahar, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mohammad Shami, Jasprit Bumrah, T Natarajan, Prasidh Krishna

‘Men in Blue’ is armed with strong artillery of bowlers who can wreak havoc in the minds of opposition teams. The fast bowling group including the likes of Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Jasprit Bumrah, and Mohammad Shami, have been brilliant in the past few years for the team. India will have great backup options in the pace department in form of yorker specialist T Natarajan, Prasidh Krishna, and Deepak Chahar.

The spin bowling department will be led by Yuzvendra Chahal, who looks like an absolute starter in the playing XI. He will have the likes of Rahul Chahar, who’s gradually beginning to earn a name for himself in the shortest format of the game. India might also use the mystery spin of Varun Chakravarthy to surprise a few oppositions in the tournament.
