Dravid unlikely to stay as white-ball coach beyond 2023 WC

Rahul Dravid's contract expires post World Cup 2023 and he is unlikely to stay beyond that barring some extraordinary turn of events, as per reports.

Dravid as Team India coach

Team India under Dravid since he took over from Ravi Shastri in 2021 has been a mixed bag. Experts and supporters alike have polarizing opinions of ‘The Wall's' tenure as head coach, and with good reason.

On one hand, he has given chances to several youngsters, bedding players like Gill, Ishan Kishan, Arshdeep Singh, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Tilak Varma, setting up a bright future in both white and red ball formats.

On the other hand, the results have been up and down at best, as India finished top of Test Championship charts to reach the finals, but failed spectacularly in the Asia Cup and T20 World Cup.

Will World Cup results affect Dravid's future?

While it may sound surprising, whatever happens in the 2023 world cup may not have much bearing on Dravid's contract. If Team India fails, he will be among the primary  fall guys, prompting the BCCI to make a change at the helm.

India announce 15-member 2023 World Cup squad

If India end up winning the coveted trophy at their home soil, Dravid would want to end on a high as someone who won everything both as a player and coach. India can move to a separate coach for a separate format model that has served England very well.

Dravid, if he wishes, could continue as the red ball coach, where he has shown an aptitude for developing talent and bringing results at the same time. However, some drastic results in the World Cup on either side of the scale could lead to very unexpected events.
