Afghanistan vs Sri Lanka result: Highlights, scorecard and man of the match

The Afghanistan vs Sri Lanka result for the 30th match of the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 on Monday turned out to be a thrilling one as Afghanistan emerged victorious by seven wickets.

This was Afghanistan's third victory of this World Cup. They had already beaten stronger teams like England and Pakistan before and it didn't come as a surprise as they defeated the Lankans as well.

Sri Lanka were in a pretty strong position at 134/2, with Sadeera Samarawickrama and Kusal Mendis batting beautifully. But Mujeeb-ur-Rahman turned the tides in Afghanistan's favour dismissing both batters in quick succession.

None of the other Sri Lankan batters could make an impact after their dismissal, and they got bowled out for 241 with three balls to spare in their innings. Left-arm pacer Fazalhaq Farooqi was the pick of the Afghan bowlers with figures of 10-1-34-4 to his name.

Afghanistan's chase didn't start on a bright note as they lost Rahmanullah Gurbaz for a duck right in the first over of the innings. But Rahmat Shah steadied the ship thereafter with solid stands of 73 and 68 with Ibrahim Zadran and Hashmatullah Shahidi respectively.

Shah played a good knock of 62 until he was dismissed by Kasun Rajitha while attempting a big shot. But once Azmatullah Omarzai joined Shahidi at the crease, Afghanistan became an unstoppable force.

Omarzai played a brilliant knock, remaining unbeaten on 73 from just 63 deliveries. Shahidi also remained unbeaten on 58 as their 111-run stand got their team home with seven wickets and 28 deliveries to spare.
