World Cup 2023 schedule to remain unchanged amidst security concerns

In the world of cricket, the gears are turning swiftly as the highly anticipated ODI World Cup 2023 draws near.

Amidst the excitement, a stir of concern emerged when the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) raised apprehensions about hosting back-to-back matches due to security issues. However, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has made a resolute decision regarding the tournament's schedule.

The HCA had voiced its worries regarding the security arrangements for two consecutive matches slated for October 9 and 10.

The matches in question were to feature New Zealand facing off against the Netherlands and Pakistan taking on Sri Lanka. Local law enforcement had expressed concerns about managing the security for these high-profile encounters.

Altering ODI World Cup 2023 Schedule not a viable option

In response to these concerns, the HCA communicated with the BCCI, seeking a possible rescheduling of the fixtures to alleviate security burdens. However, the BCCI has firmly conveyed that altering the schedule at this juncture is not a viable option.

Durga Prasad, a member of the team appointed by Supreme Court administrator L Nageswara Rao, acknowledged the discussions with the BCCI, stating, “We have engaged in discussions with the BCCI, and they have indicated that changing the schedule is not feasible at this point. Therefore, we have concurred to collaborate.”

In an attempt to address the evolving situation, HCA officials engaged in a conversation with BCCI's acting CEO, Hemang Amin, regarding the preparations for the contested matches on August 21.

Assuring everyone concerned, the Hyderabad Police stepped forward, pledging their commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all stakeholders involved.

“We comprehend that BCCI's vice-president, Mr. Rajeev Shukla, has already issued a statement. We have been informed that making a last-minute alteration is challenging, and we are striving to make arrangements for the orderly execution of the matches. We have conferred with the city's police commissioner, and he has reassured us of full assistance,” added the HCA official.

While the spotlight often shines on such logistical matters, cricket enthusiasts and fans worldwide are also turning their attention to the preparations of the participating teams.

The World Cup's inaugural matches are scheduled for October 5 in the vibrant city of Ahmedabad, setting the stage for an exhilarating tournament. Fans eager to witness the action live can mark August 25 on their calendars as the day when tickets will become available for purchase.
