Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals played out an enthralling finale in the Women’s Premier League’s inaugural edition and both these teams are set to kick-start the new season as well – here’s the full WPL 2024 schedule.

The defending champions Mumbai Indians, led by Harmanpreet Kaur, will take on Meg Lanning’s Delhi Capitals at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on February 23.

The first edition of the tournament was organised entirely in Mumbai and this time, Delhi and Bengaluru will be the two destinations for WPL. The Board of Council for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced on Tuesday that all the matches until March 4 will be taking place in Bengaluru, before the action moves to Delhi for the remainder of the competition.

A total of 22 matches will be taking place, which includes the eliminator and the final. The team finishing at the top of the points table will earn a direct entry into the final. Their opponents will be decided by the eliminator match, played between the second and third-placed teams in the table.

Just like the previous edition, five teams will compete for the ultimate prize – Delhi Capitals, Mumbai Indians, UP Warriorz, Royal Challengers Bangalore and Gujarat Giants in WPL 2024 schedule. While Delhi Capitals made it to the final directly, eventual champions beat UP Warriorz in the Eliminator courtesy of a sensational all-round performance from Nat Sciver-Brunt.

The final between Delhi Capitals and Mumbai Indians went down the wire, but Harmanpreet Kaur’s team got home courtesy of a terrific 72-run partnership between the captain and Nat Sciver-Brunt. The Capitals had earlier scored 131/9 in 20 overs and the target was chased down with three balls remaining.

The WPL was beta-tested with a mini-tournament involving three teams before the main tournament was finally staged in 2023. While the tournament currently has five teams and is being played only in limited venues.

The league stages will culminate on March 13 with a clash between Delhi Capitals and Gujarat Giants. The Eliminator will take place on March 15 and the grand finale on March 17.
