The 19th match of the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup will be played between the Netherlands and Sri Lanka. The match is set to take place at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on October 21 (Saturday).
Interestingly, Sri Lanka is the only team to not win a match in this World Cup so far. They have lost all their three matches against South Africa, Pakistan and Australia. Moreover, their skipper Dasun Shanaka has also been ruled out of the tournament due to an injury while Kusal Mendis has been appointed the captain for the rest of the World Cup.
Sri Lanka’s Captain Dasun Shanaka Ruled Out of World Cup 2023
They are rooted to the bottom of the points table and are in a must-win situation now for the remaining six matches of the competition. One more loss will more or less knock them out of the World Cup. A good record against the Netherlands will give them hope and will be confident of adding two points to their tally.
Meanwhile, the Netherlands will be high on confidence thanks to their impeccable show against South Africa in the previous outing. The Dutch lost their first two matches – against Pakistan and New Zealand but roared back into the tournament with a comprehensive show against the Proteas. They are at the eighth position currently with two points to their name with only Afghanistan and Sri Lanka below them.
