Rajasthan Royals – RR best playing XI of RR for IPL 2024

Rajasthan Royals were the champions in the inaugural edition of the Indian Premier League back in 2008 and here is the RR best playing XI for 2024. But since then they have not managed to win another title. The Royals did come close in the IPL 2022 when they made it to the final but ended up losing to the Gujarat Titans.

The Sanju Samson-led side had a middling campaign in the previous IPL season, winning seven and losing as many games. They finished fifth in the group stage, missing out on the playoffs by two points.

Rajasthan Royals’ hunt for their second IPL title will continue in the IPL 2024. Packed with stars such as Samson, Jos Buttler, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Trent Boult and Yuzvendra Chahal, the Royals will be hoping for a better season. Let's take a look at the Rajasthan Royals full squad and the best-playing XI of RR for the IPL 2024.

Rajasthan Royals did a good job in the recent IPL auction to address their issues. Ahead of the auction, they released Joe Root, Jason Holder and Obed McCoy. They also traded Devdutt Padikkal to Lucknow Super Giants in a straight swap for Avesh Khan. In the auction, they made some excellent picks such as Rovman Powell, Shubham Dubey, Tom Kohler-Cadmore, Abid Mushtaq and Nandre Burger.

Talking about RR best playing XI, four overseas slots will mostly go to Jos Buttler, Shimron Hetmyer, Rovman Powell and Trent Boult. Here is a detailed look at the best playing combination for RR in the IPL 2024.

1. Yashasvi Jaiswal

The fast-rising young Indian star will continue his partnership with Buttler at the top of the order for Rajasthan Royals. Yashasvi Jaiswal had an incredible season in the IPL 2023, where he made 625 runs from 14 innings at an average of 48 and strike rate of 164. He struck one century and five half centuries in the season and is a must in the RR best playing XI.

2. Jos Buttler

Jos Buttler has been a key figure in the Royals side since 2018. The England captain had a horrendous time in India during the World Cup but has gained some form recently. In 2022, Buttler had one of the best IPL seasons by a player, where he amassed 863 runs. IPL 2023 wasn't good for him and he'll be hoping to put that right and will make the RR best playing X. I

3. Sanju Samson (wk)

Sanju Samson will continue to lead the Royals and he will have a pretty good roster to work with. As a batter, he is pretty decent but needs to play more big knocks. In the previous season, he made 362 runs at an average of 30 and strike rate of 154.

4. Shubham Dubey

Having let go of Devdutt Padikkal, Rajasthan Royals needed an Indian batting option and Shubham Dubey was picked by them for INR 5.80 crore. He is yet to play in the IPL but has a good T20 record with an average of 37 and strike rate of 145. RR should take a punt on Dubey and bat him at four.

5. Riyan Parag

Riyan Parag is a bit of a mystery. He is constantly one of the best performing players in domestic cricket but has not been able to translate that for the Royals. He was the top run-scorer in the 2023 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, with 510 runs at an average of 85 and strike rate of 183. RR will hope this is the season he finally delivers.

6. Shimron Hetmyer

Shimron Hetmyer has developed into a very reliable finisher in the last couple of years. The left hand batter has scored 613 runs for the Royals at an excellent average of 41 while striking at 153. Hetmyer will have less pressure in the upcoming season as he will have Rovman Powell to partner with in the end overs.

7.  Rovman Powell

The Royals were proactive in the IPL auction and it helped them secure Rovman Powell for INR 7.40 crore. The team continuously suffered due to their weak lower middle order in the last couple of seasons and Powell is a great fix for that role. Powell has scored over 1000 runs in T20 cricket in 2023, at a strike rate of 164 while averaging 32.

8. Ravichandran Ashwin

R Ashwin has been pretty solid for Rajasthan Royals in the IPL. He hasn't picked as many wickets but has managed to keep a lid on the run-scoring. The off-spinner has taken 26 wickets from 30 games for RR, with an economy of 7.51.

9. Avesh Khan

Avesh Khan was traded in by RR and is likely to be a regular in the side. He is arguably the best Indian pace option they have. His numbers in the IPL have not been great but there is some potential. He has taken 56 wickets in the league at an economy of 8.64.

10. Trent Boult

Trent Boult will be key for RR as their pace battery doesn't look strong enough. The left arm pacer played 10 games for the Royals last year and picked 13 wickets at 8.23 rpo. RR have an excellent backup for him in Nandre Burger while on spin-friendly pitches, they can play an additional spinner in Adam Zampa.

11. Yuzvendra Chahal

Yuzvendra Chahal is the leading wicket-taker in IPL history. He had a decent season last time around too, picking 21 wickets in 14 games at an economy of 8.18. Chahal is the premier spinner for the Royals and will make the RR best playing XI.

Prasidh Krishna (Impact Player)

The tall fast bowler Prasidh Krishna missed the entirety of the IPL 2023 due to an injury. When fit, he will be a key member of the RR bowling attack. Krishna had a pretty good season in 2022 but a lot of time has passed. He has 49 wickets in the IPL at an economy of 8.91.
