India vs Australia and a decider – There can’t be a better recipe. The two top class teams are set to lock horns on Wednesday (March 22) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. The series is locked at 1-1 and Australia will be seeking yet another limited-overs trophy in India. The hosts, on the other hand, have a rather unblemish record at stake at home this season and certainly, it will be a thrilling encounter.

Here are the match details:

  • Match Date & Time: March 22, 2023; 1:30 PM IST
  • Venue: MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai
  • Series: Australia tour of India, 2023

India vs Australia Odds

Australia stormed back into the series in the previous game with a Mitchell Starc special bowling performance in the overcast conditions. The left-arm pacer took his ninth five-wicket haul in the previous game and was a major reason why India got skittled for just 117 runs. The visitors then chased down the target in just 11 overs with Mithcell Marsh continuing his good run in the series.

On the other hand, India will be worried with the way their top order is faring at the moment in a World Cup year and that too at home. They were 39/4 in the first ODI chasing 188 and the situation was even worse at 49/5 in the second ODI batting first. Clearly, an improved performance is expected from the Men in Blue with the series on the line.

The middle and lower-middle order has been tested enough with the likes of KL Rahul, Ravindra Jadeja among others performing well. But with Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli and Suryakumar Yadav not coming good so far, the hosts won’t mind a dominating performance from at least a couple of them in order to win the series decider.

The Aussies, meanwhile, are looking a settled unit suddenly and it remains to be seen if David Warner is included in the final game. He quashed the rumours of missing the game due to corked quad while the team will be brimming with confidence following a dominating win in the previous outing.

India

India included an extra spinner in Axar Patel in the last game in place of Shardul Thakur. With the game set to be played in Chennai, expect Axar to retain his place. Having said that, the conditions at Chepauk will also lead to the ball swinging a bit early on and the batters will have to be cautious of that. Despite twin golden ducks, Suryakumar Yadav is expected to retain his place in the XI.

Probable XI: Rohit Sharma (C), Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, KL Rahul (WK) Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Siraj, Mohammed Shami

Australia

Australia are unlikely to make any changes to their playing XI after having a near perfect ODI last time around. However, there is every chance that David Warner gets a game but for that to happen, Mitchell Marsh, who has scored 81 and 66* in the last two games opening the innings, will have to go down the order. Moreover, there is still no update over Maxwell’s availability who missed the second ODI.

Probable XI: David Warner/Marnus Labuschagne, Travis Head, Mitchell Marsh, Steve Smith (C), Glenn Maxwell, Josh Inglis (WK), Marcus Stoinis, Cameron Green, Mitchell Starc, Adam Zampa, Nathan Ellis

Pitch Report and Weather Conditions

The surface in Chennai is expected to a decent one for the batters but the nature of the pitch here is such that there will be assistance for spinners. The team winning the toss should look to bat first unless there is a chance of dew making a lot of impact in the second innings.

Overcast conditions will welcome both teams in Chennai on the match day. There is also every chance of rain playing spilsport in the game. Around 40% chance of rain could make it a tough day for the groundsmen.
