The Australia vs South Africa result in the ongoing Cricket World Cup 2023 was far from the pre-match expectations as South Africa registered an impressive win in a lop-sided contest.
The match took place at Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on Thursday, October 12th. The match witnessed a solid batting performance followed by some exceptional bowling from the Proteas.
Players with most sixes in international cricket
Australia won the toss and opted to bat first but they couldn’t make the early inroads. South Africa’s opening pair of Quinton de Kock and Temba Bavuma put on a 108-run stand in 19.2 overs.
De Kock went on to smash a century before Aiden Markram, the man who recorded the fastest World Cup century in the previous game, scored a fifty. The Proteas were looking set to get 350 but Australian bowlers managed to pull things back to restrict the opponents to 311. Glenn Maxwell was the pick of the bowlers for Australia, picking 2 for 34 in 10 overs.
Chasing a big target, Australia batters just could not put any pressure on the bowlers. Lungi Ngidi bowled exceptionally well at the beginning, conceding four runs in his first four overs and dismissing David Warner. Kagiso Rabada then delivered an incredible spell of bowling, in which he removed Steve Smith, Josh Inglis and Marcus Stoinis. In the end, the Aussies were bowled out for 177.
