Meanwhile, a dark horse has emerged in Afghanistan. They not only humbled defending champions England but also went on to knock off another win against Pakistan. They ow have Sri Lanka and Netherlands in their next two fixtures and are serious contenders to reach the semi-finals if they can win those two games as tough as it might seem.

The hot favourites

India are all but assured of making the semi-finals and have odds of 2.00 to win the title now having won five out of five games and appearing unbeatable in the league stages. They have a tough set of games coming up with England and South Africa games among them.

When it comes to cricket World Cup odds, Australia are always among the favourites. They are the record five-time champion of the tournament and always get to the latter stages. The Aussie way isn’t about any particular style, it's about winning.

Australia have a wonderful blend of experience and youth, a number of high-quality pace-bowling all-rounders, and a powerful pace bowling unit that can do damage on any surface. The odds reflect that, putting them second in the favored list with odds of 5.00. Their batting against spin can be their main undoing, however.

This has already proven true with two losses in two games against big dogs India and South Africa. However, Australia are back with wins over Sri Lanka and Pakistan have easier fixtures going forward. They are also set to receive a boost in the form of Travis Head who will return after injury.

South Africa may have never won the tournament but they have gone close several times and fallen short, thus their infamous nickname, “Chokers”. They will be hoping this is their year with a rejuvenated squad. They had a strong start this tournament with two wins out of two, including one over Australia. Even with a shock loss to Netherlands, their odds have climbed to 5.50 on the back of two thumping wins over England and Bangladesh.

South Africa are looking at a squad with a lot of potential, and they have a group well versed in playing franchise cricket who will be key to their challenge. However some of their player’s inexperience in these conditions could prove to be the main obstacle later in the tournament.

The chasing pack

England's prospects of securing a spot in the top four of the ICC World Cup 2023 and advancing to the semi-finals hang in the balance. Yet, under the leadership of Jos Buttler, the team still has a shot at a top-four position, provided they don't face any more defeats.

If they clinch victories in their upcoming five games, they can amass a total of 12 points. This tally might be sufficient to land them in the third or fourth spot in the standings. However, another setback for England could severely jeopardize their hopes of making it to the semi-finals.

Pakistan's journey to the semi-finals of the World Cup 2023 is riddled with various possibilities. Firstly, if they manage to clinch victories in all their upcoming matches, they could accumulate 12 points, enhancing their chances of a semi-final berth.

However, even in this favorable scenario, Australia's performance remains a crucial factor that could influence Pakistan's prospects. On the other hand, a defeat, especially against strong contenders like New Zealand or South Africa, might muddle their path forward.

Their aspirations could be in serious jeopardy if they suffer setbacks in multiple matches. Furthermore, Australia's potential to dominate in their remaining games stands as a significant threat to Pakistan's semi-final ambitions.

Thus, the bookmakers have them at odds of 23.00 to win the World Cup, behind the pool of the big three and some early performers at the tournament.
