With 63.51%, team India is second-ranked in terms of winning percentage, just behind Sri Lanka (63.95%). India has played 38 matches in all ICC T20 World Cups, won 24 including one super-over win, lost 13, and one game ended in no results.

Biggest winning margin (by runs)
In the 2012 ICC event, India defeated Sri Lanka by 90 runs in a group stage match played in Colombo, which is their biggest win in terms of runs. Batting first, India scored 170 runs and Harbhajan Singh’s brilliant 4 wickets haul led to England’s debacle as they bowled out for just 80 runs.
Narrowest win margin (by runs)
India jointly holds this record with South Africa and New Zealand, winning by just 1 run. And, India is the only country to do it twice. India’s total of 218-4 against England in 2007 is their highest innings total in ICC World cups. India won this match by 18 runs. It is also the fourth-highest total in the T20 World Cup history. Only Sri Lanka (260), England (230), and South Africa (229) scored more.
Most runs in World Cups

Yuvraj Singh leads the chart among Indian batters in the T20 World Cup records for most sixes. He smashed 33 sixes in the T20 World Cups. Also, his 6 sixes in six deliveries off Stuart Broad’s over against England in 2007 is still an unparalleled record.
Highest Batting Average
Among the other T20 World Cup records for India, Virat Kohli also holds the record for the highest average of 76.81. He scored 845 runs from 21 matches (19 innings) that he played in T20 World Cups between 20012 to 2021. He remained not out on 8 occasions, and his highest score is an unbeaten 89.
Hundred plus runs in an Inning
There have been only 9 centuries scored by various batsmen, and the only Indian batsman to appear on this list is Suresh Raina. In 2010, playing against South Africa, Raina scored 101 runs from 60 deliveries.

Virat Kohli has also registered the T20 World Cup record for the most number of half-centuries by any player. With his 10 fifties, he is one ahead of Chris Gayle and two ahead of another Indian superstar Rohit Sharma.

Virat Kohli once again tops the chart for India, with 4 half-centuries in the 2014 edition. He had remained unbeaten on 2 occasions, and scored 260 runs in these 4 innings, with 77 runs being his highest score. Also, overall, Kohli shares this feat of the most half centuries by a player in a T20 World Cup along with Matthew Hayden (2007) and Babar Azam (2021).
Fastest fifty in World Cups
Yuvraj Singh’s 12-ball 50 vs England in the inaugural edition of the ICC T20 World Cup is the fastest ever by any player in the world. KL Rahul (19-balls 50) holds the record of the second fastest fifty for India.
Most runs in a Single Edition
Yet again, Virat Kohli holds not just India's record, but the overall record for the most runs in a tournament. His 319 runs from just 6 innings in the 2014 edition is the most by any batsman in the history of T20 World Cups. His score of 273 in 2016 is also the second best among the Indian players.
Most Wickets in World Cups
R Ashwin tops this chart with 26 wickets from 18 matches he played in T20 World Cups between 2012 and 2021. R Jadeja is the second-best Indian bowler in the T20 World Cups with 21 wickets from 22 games.
Best Bowling Figures in an Inning
Ravichandran Ashwin’s 4 for 11 against Australia in 2014 is the best bowling figure among Indian bowlers in the T20 World Cups. India won that match by a big margin of 73 runs as Australia were bowled out for just 86 chasing 160 runs.
Best Bowling Average and Economy
R Ashwin is once again the best Indian bowler in terms of bowling averages in the T2 World Cups with an average of 15.26 (minimum 250 deliveries). He took 26 wickets from 66 overs in 18 matches he played. He also holds the record for the best Economy of 6.01 by an Indian bowler in the T20 World Cups.
Most dismissals by a Wicketkeeper
Without a doubt, MS Dhoni holds the T20 World Cup record of the most dismissals. His 32 dismissals include 21 catches and 11 stumpings, Dhoni is not only India’s best, but also the World’s best wicketkeeper in terms of the most dismissals. Dhoni also jointly holds the record of most dismissals (4) in an inning along with wicketkeepers from other countries.
Most Matches as a Captain
Once again, it’s MD Dhoni with 33 matches as a captain in the ICC T20 World Cups. He has registered 21 wins (including a super over win) and 11 losses as a captain. Daren Sammy (WI) is second on the list with 18 matches and 11 wins, which shows Dhoni is way ahead of other captains.
