IPL 2021 – Schedule and Latest News
After successfully hosting the IPL 2020 in the UAE, BCCI has all the plans to conduct the upcoming IPL in India after the England series. In all likelihood, IPL 2021 will be hosted without crowds in the stadium considering the current pandemic situation in the country. With a shortened time between the two seasons, the chances of introducing two more IPL teams in 2021 looks possibly low.
England's tour of India 2021 will conclude on March 28, and as a result, IPL 2021 could kickstart soon after in the first week of April. However, the final decision over the IPL 2021 schedule will take place during BCCI's AGM (Annual General Meeting) on December 24.
India's Domestic Cricket Season 2020-21 | Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy (SMAT) 2021
COVID-19 has caused a major hit to India's Domestic Cricket season for 2020-21. The domestic season which usually commences during the first half of the winter season has been postponed until further notice. As per reports, it was believed that BCCI is planning to stage a curtailed domestic season during the first quarter of 2021 between January and March. With a possible IPL 2021 mega auction, it was also proposed to schedule the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 trophy ahead of the scheduled 2021 IPL auction.
Accordingly, BCCI has declared the schedule for Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2021 which will be conducted between January 10 to January 31 across states. The board has asked the respective state associations to make necessary bubble arrangements for SMAT 2021. However, there is still no official word on staging the Ranji Trophy and the Vijay Hazare Trophy for 2021.
