IPL 2020: MS Dhoni to start training for IPL in Chennai from March 1

With only over a month left for the beginning of the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), MS Dhoni could well be spotted training ahead of the IPL in Chennai in the upcoming month. Dhoni, who last represented India in the horror World Cup Semi-Final defeat against New Zealand, has been out of action for quite a long time now.

While rumors continue to spread over Dhoni's possible retirement, the former Indian skipper has preferred to stay mute in issuing any clarifications on his future with the Indian team. However, Indian Head Coach Ravi Shastri, a few weeks ago, did mention the fact that Dhoni will be taking a part in IPL 2020. With an approaching T20 World Cup later this year, his performance in the IPL might also decide his fate if he wants to stake a claim in the India squad for the mega-tournament.

Dhoni to start IPL training from March 1

As per reports, it is known that Dhoni might begin his training for the IPL in Chennai from March 1. After being away from any cricketing action for nearly six months, a few days back, Dhoni even trained with the Jharkhand state team. Leading Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in IPL 2020, the skipper will hope to get back into the groove by developing a training regime at least a month before the IPL.

“He is expected to arrive on March 1. He will probably train for a couple of weeks before going back for 4-5 days and then coming back once again closer to the start of the IPL,” Times of India quoted sources privy to the development as saying.

The 38-year old will want to get back into batting rhythm after missing a chunk of 2019 due to a mini-sabbatical from cricket. It will be crucial for him to develop a T20 instinct much before the IPL begins in the last week of March. The veteran might even think of going all guns blazing if he aims to throw his hat in the ring for a selection in the T20 World Cup squad.

While there all probabilities that Dhoni might take a decision upon his international career post-IPL 2020, he might well continue to serve CSK for a couple more years before asking the youngsters to take the team forward.  Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will face defending champions Mumbai Indians in the season opener in Wankhede Stadium on March 29.
