The inaugural edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2008 was a landmark in the history of Indian cricket. Ever since its inception in 2008, the cash-rich league has continued to bring some of the best cricketers to play under the same roof. And after 14 years of successful hosting, IPL has been instrumental in shaping the careers of various individuals who have gone onto represent their nation at the international level.
As far as history goes, Rajasthan Royals emerged as the IPL winners in the inaugural edition in 2008. On the other hand, Mumbai Indians is the most successful franchise with five IPL title wins. And Chennai Super Kings holds the record for playing most IPL finals with a record seven appearances in the final.

Winner: Rajasthan Royals
Runner-up: Chennai Super Kings
Margin of win: RR won by 3 wickets
Rajasthan Royals were able to end up with the title in the inaugural season. Shane Watson was the key figure in the Rajasthan Royals squad and he was eventually named the player of the series.
2. IPL winner 2009
Winner: Deccan Chargers
Runner-up: Royal Challengers Bangalore
The margin of win: DC won by 6 runs
Deccan Chargers were able to win by a narrow margin to pick up the second IPL title in history. This season also witnessed Adam Gilchrist finishing as the player of the series with Matthew Hayden scoring 572 runs to become the top scorer.
3. IPL winner 2010
Winner: Chennai Super Kings
Runner-up: Mumbai Indians
Margin of win: CSK won by 22 runs
Sachin Tendulkar was the star of the series as he picked up 618 runs to win the top scorer title. Tendulkar was also the player of the series in 2010. However, Chennai Super Kings ultimately were able to overcome Mumbai Indians in the final to pick up their maiden title.
4. IPL winner 2011
Winner: Chennai Super Kings
Runner-up: Royal Challengers Bangalore
Margin of win: CSK won by 58 runs
Chennai Super Kings registered the second consecutive title success and this was the first time any team managed to win the competition in back-to-back seasons. Chris Gayle of RCB was the player of the series.

Winner: Kolkata Knight Riders
Runner-up: Chennai Super Kings
Margin of win: KKR won by 5 wickets
Kolkata Knight Riders beat defending champions CSK in the final to pick up their first title. The success was largely driven by the form of Sunil Narine.
6. IPL winner 2013
Winner: Mumbai Indians
Runner-up: Chennai Super Kings
Margin of win: MI won by 23 runs
Chennai Super Kings once again finished as the runner-up as Mumbai Indians picked up the title for the first time. Shane Watson was the player of the series, while Michael Hussey of CSK was the top scorer.

Winner: Kolkata Knight Riders
Runner-up: Kings XI Punjab
Margin of win: KKR won by 3 wickets
Kolkata Knight Raiders picked up their second title in the IPL after beating Punjab. Robin Uthappa scored 660 runs to pick up the top scorer title, while Glenn Maxwell was the player of the series.
8. IPL winner 2015
Winner: Mumbai Indians
Runner-up: Chennai Super Kings
Margin of win: MI won by 41 runs
Mumbai Indians were champions for the second time in the IPL as they played out a repeat of 2013 final when they beat Chennai Super Kings by a decent margin. David Warner was the top scorer in this tournament with 562 runs while Andre Russell was the player of the tournament.

Winner: Sunrisers Hyderabad
Runner-up: Royal Challengers Bangalore
Margin of win: SRH won by 8 runs
Sunrisers Hyderabad picked up their maiden IPL title after beating Royal Challengers Bangalore in the final. This was the competition dominated by Virat Kohli, who managed a whopping 973 runs en route to picking up the player of the series tournament.

Winner: Mumbai Indians
Runner-up: Rising Pune Supergiant
Margin of win: MI won by 1 run
Mumbai Indians were involved in a nail-biting finish against Rising Pune Supergiant and they picked up their third title by a narrow margin of just one run. Ben Stokes of Rising Pune Supergiant was the player of the series back in 2017.

Winner: Chennai Super Kings
Runner-up: Sunrisers Hyderabad
Margin of win: RR won by 3 wickets
After the match-fixing scandal, Chennai Super Kings return to the top of the tree for the third IPL title by beating Sunrisers Hyderabad. Kane Williamson of SRH was the top scorer with 735 runs while Sunil Narine was the player of the series.

Margin of win: MI won by 1 run
Mumbai Indians once again managed to come out on the right side of a thrilling final, as they beat Chennai Super Kings by just one run to pick up their fourth title. Andre Russell was crowned as the player of the series for the second time.

Runner-up: Delhi Capitals
Margin of win: MI won by 5 wickets
Mumbai Indians were able to register a fifth IPL title after beating Delhi Capitals by five wickets in the final of the 2020 edition. Jofra Archer was able to win the most valuable player title while KL Rahul was able to finish with the most runs at 670 runs

Winner: Chennai Super Kings
Runner-up: Kolkata Knight Riders
Margin of win: CSK won by 27 runs
Chennai Super Kings picked up the fourth IPL title after beating Kolkata Knight Riders in 2021 final. Harshal Patel was the most valuable player while Ruturaj Gaikwad finished with the most runs at 635.
15. IPL winner 2022
Winner: Gujarat Titans
Runner-up: Rajasthan Royals
Margin of win: Gujarat Titans won by 7 wickets
IPL 2022 witnessed a new champion after Gujarat Titans picked up the title by beating Rajasthan Royals. Jos Buttler was the star of the series and he also finished with 863 runs.
