Pakistan vs South Africa head to head stats and records ODI 2023
Pakistan vs South Africa head to head have always shared contrasting fortunes, historically or recently. Pakistan have plenty to show for, with respect to their achievements at the global level like winning multiple ICC trophies, while South Africa, despite all its fame and fortune, have an empty trophy cabinet when it comes to major tournaments.
Both teams squared off against each other for the first time in 1992, shortly after the ICC ban was lifted and South Africa had returned to the World Cup. A few years down the line, in 1995, they went on to play the first Test between these sides.
South Africa have an edge against Pakistan in ODI cricket and have been consistently dominating the head-to-head battle. While the Proteas have won 51 matches in 82 meetings, Pakistan won only 30 times.
Both these teams will challenge each other at the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 in Chennai on October 27. South Africa have been in sensational form throughout the 2023 edition, barring the unexpected defeat to the Netherlands, where they were thoroughly outplayed. They are one of the top contenders to finish on top of the points table, or even go all the way to win the tournament.

Pakistan, on the other hand, got off to a solid start but lost their way completely. After two terrific wins to begin their campaign against Sri Lanka and Netherlands, they were taken apart in Ahmedabad by India. That defeat was followed by two more humblings against Australia and Afghanistan, which have now jeopardised with their chances of reaching the semi-finals.
Pakistan are under severe scrutiny heading into this match and a defeat could nearly put an end to their World Cup ambitions. For South Africa, it is all about the momentum.
Pakistan vs South Africa head to head team ODI records and stats
South Africa are comfortably ahead in this head-to-head duel, but Pakistan have a lot more to show for in terms of achievements – having won the ICC World Cup 1992 and the ICC Champions Trophy 2017. Pakistan have also won their last three metings in an ICC tournament – in the 2015 and 2019 World Cups, 2017 Champions Trophy.
Pakistan have won six of their last 10 meetings, but their coming togethers have not been very frequent lately. Both teams haven’t played each other since the three-match bilateral tour hosted by South Africa in 2021.
Here’s a look at the last 10 matches between these sides in ODIs.

Pakistan vs South Africa: What happened in the last meeting?
Pakistan emerged victorious the last time these two teams met in an ODI match. The match was played over two years ago in Centurion and it was the decider of the three-match series, with Pakistan and South Africa having won a game each prior to this.
The Pakistani top three went hell for leather in this contest, chipping in with vital contributions. Fakhar Zaman scored a terrific century, finishing with 104 off 101 deliveries, while Babar Azam and Imam-ul-Haq picked up timely half-centuries. A late cameo from Hasan Ali (32* off 11 balls) helped them finish with 320/7 in 50 overs.
Three Proteas batters – Janneman Malan, Kyle Verreyne and Andile Phehlukwayo – scored half-centuries in the run chase and got the side very close. However, the Pakistani pacers were on fire towards the end and dismissed all their lower order batters for below par scores, picking up a 28-run win.
Shaheen Afridi (3/58) and Mohammad Nawaz (3/34) were the stars with the ball, while Haris Rauf picked up a couple of wickets.
