The International Cricket Council (ICC), on Wednesday (August 9), finally confirmed the revised 2023 ODI World Cup schedule in India.
Nine matches of the tournament witnessed a schedule change after several boards and Indian state police authorities expressed concerns to the BCCI and the ICC over the original schedule that was announced on June 27.
The marquee India vs Pakistan clash has been advanced by a day and will now happen on October 14. The security agencies had advised the BCCI to reschedule the fixture as it clashed with the first day of Navratri, a Hindu festival. With this game being preponed, Pakistan’s previous fixture against Sri Lanka is now moved by two days. Earlier it was scheduled to be played on October 12 and will now take place on October 10.
One more Pakistan encounter is affected with their big-ticket match against England in Kolkata getting shifted a day earlier, to November 11. This has been done following concerns raised by Kolkata police to the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) that providing security during the Hindu festival of Kali Puja, on November 12, would have been difficult. Accordingly, the Australia vs Bangladesh clash has also been shifted to November 11 making it a double-header day. To manage the World Cup schedule, India’s last league stage game against the Netherlands is moved from November 11 to 12, and will now be played in Bengaluru on Diwali.

New Zealand and Bangladesh will now lock horns on October 13 in a day-night fixture, unlike the earlier World Cup schedule when they were to clash in a day game on October 14.
Among other big matches, Australia vs South Africa match has been brought forward by a day. Instead of October 12, the two teams will now face each other on October 13 in Lucknow. The England and Afghanistan clash, which was earlier set for October 14 will now happen 24 hours later on October 15.

Interestingly, despite the many changes to the World Cup schedule, venues for the rescheduled matches have not been changed, and all games will be played in cities where they were originally supposed to be held in.
The Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad will host the opener between finalises of the 2019 mega event – England and New Zealand on October 5. The league stage will end on November 12 now with the game between India and the Netherlands.
The two semi-finals are scheduled to be played on November 15 and 16 in Mumbai and Kolkata respectively. If India qualifies for the knockouts, their semi-final will take place at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai unless their opposition is Pakistan. In that case, the semi-final clash will be hosted by Eden Gardens in Kolkata. The final of the World Cup is on November 19 in Ahmedabad where more than 1 lakh fans will be attending to witness which team will lift the trophy.
