The 17th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is in full flow currently with teams aiming to win as many matches in the first half of the season and here are the players with the most ducks in IPL. Over the years, a lot of records have been created and broken by the batters but some of the players also have a few embarrassing records to their name as well.
No batter likes to score a duck but at times, they are undone by a beauty from the bowler or gets out after playing a poor shot. Apart from big records, some of the batters have also made it a habit to get out without opening the account. Hence, here we look at 5 players with most ducks in IPL history.

- Rohit Sharma – 17 ducks
Former Mumbai Indians skipper and six-time IPL champion, Rohit Sharma is jointly on top of this list with most ducks in IPL to his name in his career so far. The man climbed the ladder after getting out without troubling the scorers against Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2024. However, his record of most ducks in IPL, doesn’t take anything away from him as a batter.
He has scored 6280 runs in 241 innings at a strike-rate of 130.34 with a century and 42 fifties to his name. He has also smacked 562 fours and 261 sixes so far in the cash-rich league. Having played in the league since 2008, it is almost certain that Rohit has failed in a few matches, thereby, bagging 17 ducks so far.
- Dinesh Karthik – 17 ducks
Wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik is jointly at the top of this list with Rohit Sharma having bagged 17 ducks. He is currently playing for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru and has featured for five other teams – Delhi Capitals, Gujarat Lions, Kolkata Knight Riders, Punjab Kings and Mumbai Indians – in his 247-match IPL career so far.
Karthik, batting down the order, for the majority of his career has amassed 4606 runs at an average of 26.02 and a strike-rate of 133.31 with 20 half-centuries to his name. He has also smacked 445 fours and 146 sixes thus far. Like Rohit, even Karthik has played IPL since its inception in 2008 and after playing 225 innings, he has got out for a duck in 17 of them.
- Glenn Maxwell – 16 ducks
Glenn Maxwell is one player who has never realised his full potential in the Indian Premier League (IPL). With all due respect to him, the Australian could’ve easily tumbled a lot of records in the cash-rich league. Instead, he is third on the list of most ducks in IPL with bagging 16 of them so far in 125 innings.
Not that Maxwell hasn’t done anything in IPL. He has scored 2751 runs in 129 matches at an average of 25.47 at a strike-rate of 156.75 with 18 fifties to his name. Interestingly, Maxwell is yet to score a century in the T20 extravaganza but has managed to his 159 maximums to go with 229 fours. Maxwell is currently playing for RCB which is his fourth team in IPL having turned up for Delhi Capitals, Punjab Kings and Mumbai Indians before in his career.
- Piyush Chawla – 15 ducks
Piyush Chawla is predominantly a bowler but somehow finds his name in the list despite batting only in 88 innings in his IPL career. Chawla has 15 ducks to his name and is fourth in the list of batters with most ducks in the history of the tournament. He is currently playing for the five-time champions Mumbai Indians and in a way, has redeemed his IPL career at the back end of his overall career in the last couple of years.
The leg-spinner is the third highest wicket-taker of IPL ever with 181 scalps to his name and continues to add more his tally in IPL 2024. He has played 184 matches so far and has mustered 612 runs in 88 innings with 24 being his highest score. Chawla will be hoping to do wonders for MI this season having picked two wickets in three matches thus far.
Apart from MI, he has featured for Chennai Super Kings, Kolkata Knight Riders and Punjab Kings in his IPL career so far.
- Mandeep Singh and Sunil Narine – 15 ducks
Mandeep Singh is next in this list with as many as 15 ducks to his name. He isn’t featuring in the ongoing season of IPL having gone unsold at the auction last year. But the opening batter has played 111 matches in his career so far and has every chance of playing next year if he does well in domestic circuit.
Mandeep has bagged 15 ducks in 98 innings scoring 1706 runs at an average of 20.8 and a strike-rate of almost 123 with six scores in excess of fifty. He has played for four teams – Delhi Capitals, Kolkata Knight Riders, Punjab Kings and Royal Challengers Bengaluru and will be hoping to return to action in IPL next year.
Another player with 15 ducks in IPL is KKR’s talismanic player Sunil Narine. He has played 165 matches so far batting on 99 occasions and is featuring on this list for registering joint-fourth highest ducks. He has scored 1180 runs at a strike-rate of 163.88 with five fifties to his name. Narine has amassed most of his runs opening the innings as KKR have smartly used his batting and are using it again this season with the left-hander smashing runs at will again.
Narine is also the eighth highest wicket-taker in IPL history with 166 scalps to his name so far and will be adding to his tally even more in the remainder of the ongoing season. He has picked up seven four-wicket hauls and a five-fer as well and has accounted all the wickets at an average of 25.84 and an economy of 6.74 which is the best among top wicke-takers in the history of IPL.
