The ninth edition of the T20 World Cup is set to commence on June in the West Indies and the USA and here's the list of centuries scored in T20 World Cup. As many as 20 teams are set to participate in the mega event this time around and a total of 55 T20 matches will be played after which the new world champion will be crowned in the shortest format.
The T20 World Cup has witnessed a lot of special knocks in its history since 2007 edition but very few have managed to go past the magical 100-run mark. Here we list the centuries scored in T20 World Cup history.

Fittingly, the first ever T20 World Cup century came from none other than Universe Boss Chris Gayle in the first ever match of the T20 World Cup history. Opening the innings against South Africa, Gayle smashed 117 runs off 57 balls with seven fours and 10 sixes to his name. Unfortunately, his knock went in vain as South Africa chased down the target of 206 runs with eight wickets in hand.

India’s Suresh Raina was the next addition to the list of centuries scored in T20 World Cup. Even this ton came again South Africa in the 2010 edition of the tournament with Raina smashing 101 runs off 60 deliveries with nine fours and five sixes. Thanks to his knock, India posted 186 runs on the board and ended up winning the match by 14 runs.

Mahela Jayawardene followed Raina’s footsteps to score the third T20 World Cup ton within 24 hours. The legendary Sri Lankan batter smashed Zimbabwe bowlers to all parts of the ground to score 100 runs off 64 balls with 10 fours and four sixes. Sri Lanka posted a total of 173 runs in their 20 overs and won the rain-affected match eventually by 14 runs.

Centuries scored in T20 World Cup increased to four when Brendon McCullum stunned the Bangladesh bowlers with his hitting skills in 2012 edition. Batting at number three, the aggressive Kiwi batter scored 123 runs off just 58 balls with 11 fours and seven sixes to his name as New Zealand posted 191 runs in their 20 overs. McCullum’s 123-run knock remains the highest individual score in T20 World Cup history.

England opener Alex Hales took toll of the Sri Lankan bowlers in Chattogram to score 116 runs off 64 balls with 11 fours and six sixes. This was also the first ever T20 WC century while chasing as England gunned down the target of 190 runs with four balls and six wickets in hand thanks to Hales’ heroics with the bat.

Ahmed Shehzad’s name got added to the list of centuries scored in T20 World Cup in the 2014 edition. Opening the innings, Shehzad smashed an unbeaten 111 off just 62 balls smashing 10 fours and five maximums much to the delight of Pakistan fans. His knock propelled the men in green to 190 runs in their 20 overs and in response, Bangladesh could only reach 132.

Tamim Iqbal became the first and only player from Bangladesh to score a century in T20 World Cup in 2016. He batted through the innings to remain unbeaten on 103 off 63 deliveries with 10 fours and five sixes helping Bangladesh post 180 runs on the board. Bangladesh ended winning the match by 54 runs as it rained a lot in Dharamsala during the match.

Chris Gayle is the only batter to score multiple tons in T20 World Cup history and achieved this unique feat in 2016 edition. He scored a fantastic ton off just 48 balls with five fours and a staggering 11 sixes as the Caribbean side chased down 183 runs in the 19th over itself with six wickets in hand.

Jos Buttler was added to the list of centuries scored in T20 World Cup in November 2021 when he smashed Sri Lanka bowlers in Sharjah. The current England skipper in limited-overs cricket amassed 101 runs off 67 balls with six sixes and as many fours to propel his side to a competitive total of 163 runs in their 20 overs. Sri Lanka could only reach 137 in response and England managed to win the game comfortably by 26 runs.

Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) witnessed Rilee Rossouw becoming the first ever centurion from South Africa at the T20 World Cup. The southpaw scored 109 runs off 56 balls with as many as eight maximums and seven fours while batting at three. Batting first, South Africa posted a mammoth total of 205 runs for the loss of five wickets in 20 overs and eventually ended up winning the match by a massive margin of 104 runs.

The last addition to the list of centuries scored in T20 World Cup was New Zealand’s Glenn Phillips who lit up the SCG with his gigantic knock. Despite being 15/3 at one stage, New Zealand could reach 167 runs in their 20 overs only because of a heroic and fighting knock from Phillips. He scored 104 runs off 64 balls with 10 fours and four sixes as the Kiwis eventually won comfortably by 65 runs.
