From Rohit to Maxwell: Players with most centuries in T20Is

Glenn Maxwell scored another hundred against West Indies on Sunday and has joined Rohit Sharma as the batter with the most centuries in T20Is.

Rohit Sharma was the first batter in T20 internationals to score five centuries and was joined by Maxwell who achieved the feat in the second T20I against West Indies in Adelaide. He was sharing the top spot in this elite list alongside short-format superstars Suryakumar Yadav and Glenn Maxwell, but with his Wednesday exploits, he rose to the top unanimously again.

Rohit Sharma made his T20I debut in 2007 and went on to register his first three-figure score in this format back in 2015 against South Africa. He went on to add three more tons in a space of 11 months from December 2017 to November 2018, also registering the fastest century by an Indian in this format.

While four of these five centuries came in India, Sharma scored his first T20I century away from home in Bristol against England. His unbeaten 100 helped India beat the hosting nation by seven wickets. The Indian skipper is just shy of 4,000 runs in T20 internationals and will become only the second cricketer after Virat Kohli to reach that landmark. He currently has the most centuries in T20Is.

2. Glenn Maxwell (Australia) – 5 centuries

Very few cricketers are capable of pulling off the miracles Glenn Maxwell can. The Australian all-rounder is widely renowned for his incredible ability to strike the ball to any part of the ground and over the years, he became a batting sensation in limited-overs cricket. Very recently, he was also an integral presence in Australia’s World Cup-winning squad.

Maxwell scored his first T20I century against Sri Lanka in 2016 and went on to become the only batter to score three centuries while chasing in this format. Recently, he also became the first batter to score a double century while chasing in ODIs as well.

3. Suryakumar Yadav (India) – 4 centuries

Suryakumar Yadav took giant strides in T20Is since making his debut in 2021. He quickly became a very central figure in India’s short-format side and went on to feature in the ODI team regularly, also making it to the 50-over World Cup squad in 2023. In July 2022, Yadav scored his maiden T20I century against England at Trent Bridge, and becoming only the fifth Indian player to hit three figures in this format.

He added three more to his tally in a short period, making him one of India’s most revered batters in white ball cricket. The 33-year-old batter averages above 40 and bats at a strike rate of more than 170, a rare combination of consistency and aggression which has benefitted the Indian team aplenty in recent years. It has also helped him score four hundreds – the second most centuries in T20Is.

Sabawoon Davizi made his debut in this format against Malta in 2019 and went on to feature in 31 T20Is for the Czech Republic.
