Bangladesh, led by Shakib Al Hasan, became the first team to get knocked out of the tournament after they lost to Pakistan by seven wickets at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata. The Tigers will now be looking to somehow beat Sri Lanka and keep alive their hopes of qualifying for the Champions Trophy to be played next year.

Sri Lanka, on the other hand, beat defending champions England by seven wickets but slumped to a 302-run defeat at the hands of Rohit Sharma’s India. The loss at the Wankhede Stadium also meant that their net run rate went down to -1.162.
The Islanders have to win their next game to keep themselves in contention for a berth in the semi-final. Sri Lanka will be looking to draw confidence from their recent wins against Bangladesh in the Asia Cup.

Bangladesh vs Sri Lanka: What happened in their last meeting?
Sri Lanka beat Bangladesh by 21 runs when the two teams last met back in September in the Super Four match of the Asia Cup 2023 at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.
After being put in to bat first, Sri Lanka scored 257 for the loss of nine wickets in 50 overs. Sadeera Samarawickrama was the star performer as he racked up 93 runs off 72 balls with eight fours and two sixes. Kusal Mendis also chipped in with a handy 50-run knock.
Taskin Ahmed and Hasan Mahmud picked up three wickets apiece and were the standout bowlers for the Tigers. Shoriful Islam got two important wickets of Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Mendis.

Shakib Al Hasan failed to pick up a wicket, but gave away only 44 runs. Nasum Ahmed also bowled his heart out as he finished with figures of 10-1-31-0.
Bangladesh faltered in their run-chase and were bowled out for 236. Towhid Hridoy scored 82 runs off 97 balls with seven fours and one six, but he did not get enough support from the others.
Mohammad Naim, Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Mushfiqur Rahim scored in 20s, but failed to convert. Maheesh Theekshana, Dasun Shanaka and Matheesha Pathirana picked up three wickets apiece.
