South Africa vs Sri Lanka head to head stats and records ODI 2023

The South Africa vs Sri Lanka head to head record is favouring the Proteas. Ahead of their upcoming clash at the Cricket World Cup, we dive deeper into the rivalry between these two teams.

South Africa and Sri Lanka locked horns against each other in the 50-over format a massive 80 times. The rivalry between the two teams dates back to 1992 when they faced for the first time in the history of ODI cricket.

South Africa are significantly ahead in this head to head record against Sri Lanka, having won 45 out of 80 played against them. Sri Lanka have emerged victorious on 33 occasions, with one match ending in a tie and the other in no result.

When it comes to the World Cup, the two teams played six times with South Africa winning four of them.

South Africa and Sri Lanka will start their campaign on October 7, the first double-header day of World Cup 2023. The match is scheduled to commence at 2 PM IST at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, the national capital of India.

South Africa have had their injury issues in the lead up to the mega event but they played admirably well at home against Australia in the five-match series last month.

They were 0-2 down after first two matches but came back strongly to win the last three games of the series and pocket it 3-2. Even in the warm-up game against New Zealand, they fared decently and will be confident coming into the competition.

Sri Lanka, on the other hand, are missing their trump card in Wanindu Hasaranga and pace bowler Dushmantha Chameera. But they played extremely well in the Asia Cup last month to make it to the final only to lose to India.

Despite losing both warm-up matches, the Dasun Shanaka-led side will be quietly confident of taking down some top teams in this World Cup.
