Bangladesh vs Sri Lanka, Match 38
ICC World Cup, 6 November, 2023, 2 PM IST, Arun Jaitley Stadium, New Delhi
Bangladesh and Sri Lanka are scheduled to lock horns against each other in the 38th match of the Cricket World Cup in India.
The match is set to take place at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, where the pollution has taken centre stage over the last week or so with teams even cancelling training sessions in the lead-up to the encounter.
While Bangladesh have been knocked out of the competition, Sri Lanka are only mathematically alive in the semifinal qualification race. The 302-run loss to India has more or less knocked them out as well.
Bangladesh’s abject performance so far in the World Cup has certainly disappointed their passionate fans back home. They have lost their last six matches without even putting up a fight and are coming off a seven-wicket loss to Pakistan in the previous game at Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
They started their World Cup campaign well with a six-wicket win over Afghanistan in Dharamsala but that was only the moment of happiness for the Tigers and their fans. With two matches still left in the tournament for them, they will be looking to bow out of the World Cup on a high.
Meanwhile, Sri Lanka’s performance, too has been baffling. The cricket board is fuming over their massive 302-run loss to India in their previous game and has asked for an immediate explanation from the management.
However, their campaign has been ruined with injuries to leg-spinner Wanindu Hasaranga, who didn’t even feature in the tournament.
Also, their regular skipper Dasun Shanaka got ruled out midway while Lahiru Kumara who offered pace was also out of the tournament after bowling a match-winning spell against England. Nevertheless, they will be looking forward to win their remaining two matches and make some statement before returning home.
The Bangladesh vs Sri Lanka prediction is actually a difficult one to make as the Asian rivals have more often played out some thrilling encounters in the past in white-ball cricket.
Both teams know each other very well and we could be in for an entertainer on Monday in the national capital amid pollution talks.

Bangladesh vs Sri Lanka Match Preview
Bangladesh
Bangladesh are unlikely to make any changes to their playing XI and will be looking to back the same set of players for the remaining two games. The likes of Tanzid Hasan and Towhid Hridoy will be looking to seal their place in the team with good shows with the bat.
Also, Shakib Al Hasan, Mahmudullah and Mushfiqur Rahim will be keen on ending the tournament on a high given they are unlikely to play another ODI World Cup.

Sri Lanka
Like Bangladesh, Sri Lanka might not make many changes to their playing XI. However, it was baffling to see Dhananjaya de Silva being left out in the previous game.
His replacement Dushan Hemantha didn’t do much and we might see De Silva coming back into the set up yet again even as it doesn’t make much sense to drop a player after just one game.
Dimuth Karunaratne returning at the top hasn’t helped them much either but they don’t have any other option too with Kusal Perera not firing at all with the bat opening the innings.

Pitch Report and Expected Weather Conditions for BAN vs SL
Delhi has hosted a lot of high-scoring encounters in this World Cup apart from the one between England and Afghanistan when the latter side defended 280-odd runs.
This pitch is expected to be full of runs yet again and the team winning the toss is expected to bowl first given that the dew will set in with winter season approaching fast.

Bangladesh vs Sri Lanka win prediction: Sri Lanka to win
Given the current form, Sri Lanka are the clear favourites to win this match.
