Kolkata Knight Riders have been comfortably the best-performing side in the IPL 2024. They topped the points table with nine victories and went on to smash Sunrisers Hyderabad in Qualifier 1 by eight wickets to reach the final.

Bowling first, Mitchell Starc got them off to a perfect start by knocking over Travis Head on the second ball. He ended up picking 3 for 34 while Varun Chakravarthy snared 2 for 26 as they restricted SRH to 159. KKR openers provided them a quick start before the two Iyers put on an unbroken 97-run stand for the third wicket. Shreyas smashed 58* off 24 while Venkatesh struck 51 not-out in 28 deliveries.

Sunrisers Hyderabad, who came second in the league stage, lost Qualifier 1 to Kolkata Knight Riders. But they had another shot at making it to the final in Qualifier 2, where they defeated Rajasthan Royals by 36 runs at this very venue in Chennai. 

Batting first, SRH lost an early wicket before Rahul Tripathi smashed 37 off 15 deliveries. Travis Head struggled a bit and was dismissed for 34 off 28. Heinrich Klaasen then scored a 34-ball fifty as they reached 175. Defending the total, SRH kept the pressure on before Shahbaz Ahmed picked 3 for 23 in four overs to turn the game in their favour. Abhishek Sharma also snared 2 for 24 as they held off the opponents.
