The much anticipated Indian Premier League's 2024 season is set to get underway on March 22 with a clash between Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore. Before the season begins, let's take a look at all captains in IPL 2024.

MS Dhoni – Chennai Super Kings

The greatest Indian captain MS Dhoni is set to lead Chennai Super Kings in yet another season. Dhoni and CSK have become synonymous over the years and it could just be the final season of Dhoni's playing career. CSK are the defending champions heading into the IPL 2024. They defeated Gujarat Titans in the final last year to lift their fifth IPL title, all of which have come under Dhoni. CSK have a strong side and will be hoping to give Dhoni a great farewell.

Hardik Pandya – Mumbai Indians

Hardik Pandya, who led Gujarat Titans in the previous two editions of the IPL, will be leading Mumbai Indians in the IPL 2024. Mumbai Indians won five titles under the leadership of Rohit Sharma but decided to move on from him with an eye on the future. MI signed Hardik during the trading window in one of the biggest moves in the league's history. Pandya had led the Titans to a championship in their maiden season and reached the final in the previous season.

Shubman Gill – Gujarat Titans

Shubman Gill will begin his captaincy stint in the IPL after taking over the reins for Gujarat Titans. His road to the leadership role was cleared after Hardik left the franchise. As a batter, Shubman had an incredible IPL season last year where he amassed 890 runs at an average of 59 and a strike rate of 158. Gill has had some experience of captaincy at the under-19 level and will be eager for this new challenge and he is a list of all captains in IPL 2024.

Rishabh Pant – Delhi Capitals

Rishabh Pant, the heart and soul of Delhi Capitals returns as one of the 10 captains in IPL 2024. The left-hand batter will make his return to cricket in the upcoming season after recovering from a serious road accident. Pant led Delhi Capitals in 30 matches across two seasons in 2021 and 2022, where they won 16 games and lost 13. DC topped the table in 2021 but lost both Qualifiers and crashed out. In the following season, they finished fifth with seven wins. His return is a huge boost to the franchise this upcoming season.

Shreyas Iyer – Kolkata Knight Riders

Shreyas Iyer missed the entirety of the IPL 2023 but will be back to take charge this season. However, he will have added pressure on him after the recent fallout with the Indian board. In 2020, Iyer led Delhi Capitals to the final where they lost to Mumbai Indians. In 2022, Kolkata Knight Riders spent INR 14 crore to acquire him and handed him the reins. KKR finished seventh in the last two editions and would be desperate for a turnaround. He makes the list of all captains in IPL 2024.

KL Rahul – Lucknow Super Giants

KL Rahul will continue to lead the Lucknow Super Giants team in the IPL 2024 after having captained them in both editions since their inception. LSG reached the playoffs in both seasons but ended up getting knocked out in the eliminator on both occasions. They won nine matches in the group stage in 2022 and eight in the following season. LSG had one of the strongest sides in the league but faltered in the playoffs. Rahul would hope for them to be third time lucky.

Faf du Plessis – Royal Challengers Bangalore

Faf du Plessis is one of the only two overseas captains in IPL 2024. Royal Challengers Bangalore had brought him in ahead of the 2022 season and named him Virat Kohli's successor. RCB came fourth in the group stage and defeated Lucknow in the eliminator before losing in the Qualifier 2. Last year, they lost the final group fixture and couldn't make it into the playoffs. Du Plessis’ form was great with 730 runs at 56 average and 154 strike rate.

Sanju Samson – Rajasthan Royals

Rajasthan Royals trusted Sanju Samson as their skipper in 2021 and he has done a decent job since. They finished at the second-last spot in 2021 but made it to the final in the following season, where they lost to Gujarat Titans. In the previous IPL edition, RR fell two points short of making the top four. The Royals are a stronger side than they were the last three seasons and Samson should enjoy leading them in the IPL 2024.

Shikhar Dhawan – Punjab Kings

Punjab Kings had appointed Shikhar Dhawan as their captain ahead of the IPL 2022 after letting Mayank Agarwal go. The veteran Indian batter will continue leading the team in this upcoming season. PBKS finished eighth in the last edition after winning six and losing eight games. Dhawan made 373 runs from 11 games last year at an average of 41 and strike rate of 143. But he's been out of action since and that could be an issue in this season.

Pat Cummins – Sunrisers Hyderabad

The ODI World Cup and World Test Championship-winning captain of Australia, Pat Cummins will be leading Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL 2024. SRH is a franchise that has lacked any stability in recent years and this new move is another instance of it. They had Aiden Markram as the captain last year and he might not even be a regular in the playing XI this time. Cummins, who SRH bought for a whopping price of INR 20.5 crore, doesn't have much experience in T20 captaincy and has his work cut out and is the latest in all captains in IPL 2024.
