Kolkata Knight Riders vs Gujarat Titans match preview

Kolkata Knight Riders

The Knight Riders, captained by Nitish Rana, have plenty of work to do if they are to move into the top four. The Men in Gold and Purple went into a slump after losing four matches in a row. They made frequent changes to their lineup and that did not help them by any stretch of the imagination.

Just when their campaign was seeming to fall apart, KKR racked up a victory by 21 runs against the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore.

After being put in to bat first, KKR put up a huge score of 200 for the loss of five wickets. Jason Roy took his team off to a flying start by scoring 56 runs off 29 balls with four fours and five sixes before Vijaykumar Vyshak dismissed him. Later Nitish Rana also scored 48 off 21.

Thereafter, Varun Chakravarthy picked up three wickets for 27 runs and guided KKR past the finish line. He also won the Player of the Match award. Suyash Sharma and Andre Russell also picked up two wickets apiece.

KKR possible 11: N Jagadeesan (wk), Jason Roy, Venkatesh Iyer, Nitish Rana (c), Rinku Singh, Andre Russell, Sunil Narine, David Wiese, Vaibhav Arora, Umesh Yadav, Varun Chakravarthy

Gujarat Titans

The Titans, led by Hardik Pandya, are placed second in the table with 10 points and a net run rate of +0.580 thanks to wins in five out of seven matches. They will go into the game after beating Rohit Sharma’s Mumbai Indians (MI) by 55 runs.

After being put in to bat first, the Titans scored 207 for the loss of six wickets. Shubman Gill scored a half-century after which David Miller and Abhinav Manohar gave the innings a finishing kick. Rahul Tewatia also scored 20 runs off five balls.

Thereafter, the Titans restricted MI to 152 for nine in 20 overs. 18-year-old leg-spinner Noor Ahmad picked up three wickets. Rashid Khan and Mohit Sharma accounted for two wickets apiece.

There will be chances of heavy rain throughout the day, which could lead to delays and interruptions. Temperatures will be around the 32-degree Celsius mark. The humidity will be in the 40s and dew is likely to play a part.

Toss prediction: Gujarat Titans to win the toss and bat first

The Titans should opt to bat first after winning the toss. Chasing teams are yet to win a match in Kolkata this season. GT would not mind chasing as well since they have a strong batting unit.

Man of the match prediction: Shubman Gill

Shubman Gill has been the standout batter for the Titans by quite some distance. The right-handed batter has notched 284 runs from seven matches at an average of 40.57 and a strike-rate of 142.71. He will go into the game after scoring a match-winning 56 off 34 balls against the Mumbai Indians (MI). Gill is again expected to take his team off to a steady start.

Betting Odds

  • Kolkata Knight Riders: 2.104
  • Gujarat Titans: 1.730

The bookies feel that the Titans have a better chance of winning the match, which is what we also think. Can the Knights defy the odds and come up trumps at the Eden Gardens? They have lost their last two matches at home and will be desperate to stage a comeback.
