After being asked to bat first, CSK's openers lit up Wankhede with ridiculous hitting all over the park. The duo of Ruturaj Gaikwad and Faf du Plessis stitched a 115-run partnership for the first wicket. On a flat deck, the batting onslaught never stopped as du Plessis carried his way to stay unbeaten on 95 at the end of the first innings. A few middle-order blitz courtesy of  Moeen Ali 25(12) and MS Dhoni 17(8), lifted CSK to post 220/3 in their 20 overs against KKR.

Chasing a huge total of 221 runs to win, KKR began in the worst possible manner. Kolkata lost the early wicket of Shubman Gill as Deepak Chahar soon accounted for Eoin Morgan and Nitish Rana in his successive overs. The KKR top-order collapsed like a pack of cards with Chahar being the wrecker-in-chief, picking up four wickets inside the powerplay. While it looked that KKR would soon get bundled out for a paltry score, Andre Russell came out with aggressive intent to take on the bowling attack. The ‘Russell show' was quite spectacular until it lasted for 21 balls, sending shivers down the spine of the CSK bowlers.

Despite losing Russell and Dinesh Karthik in quick succession, Pat Cummins didn't lose hope as he kept smashing the ball over the ropes to keep KKR alive in yesterday's IPL match vs CSK. However, Cummins' 34-ball 66 didn't prove enough for KKR to cross the line. In the end, CSK managed to fetch a result in yesterday's KKR vs CSK IPL match by 18 runs.
