Lucknow Super Giants – LSG best playing XI for IPL 2024

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) joined the Indian Premier League in 2022 as one of the two new franchises. They have done well to make it into the playoffs in both seasons but they will be hoping to go all the way in the IPL 2024 with LSG best playing XI.

The KL Rahul-led Super Giants secured third spot on the table in 2022, winning nine out of 14 games. But then lost the Eliminator against Royal Challengers Bangalore. They again were third at the end of the group stage in the IPL 2023, and again lost the Eliminator to Mumbai Indians.

LSG had retained most of their squad from the previous edition and didn't do much in the auction. They have some quality players alongside Rahul such as Quinton de Kock, Nicholas Pooran, Ravi Bishnoi and Marcus Stoinis. As they gear up for the next season, we take a look at the Lucknow Super Giants full squad and LSG best playing XI for the next IPL.

Lucknow Super Giants were one of the least active franchises at the IPL auction as most of their squad was settled. They brought in Shivam Mavi, Ashton Turner and David Willey in the auction. One big move LSG made was via a trade, acquiring Devdutt Padikkal from Rajasthan Royals in a straight swap with Avesh Khan.

Lucknow have a pretty predictable line-up, which would also be LSG best playing XI combination in the IPL 2024.

1. KL Rahul

KL Rahul will continue to lead the side as they eye for a maiden IPL trophy and will be in LSG best playing XI. He is one of the most consistent batters in the game, with over 4000 runs at an average of 47. Rahul had a pretty ordinary campaign in the IPL 2023, where he played nine games and scored 274 runs at a strike rate of 113. LSG will be hoping for their skipper to be at his best.

2. Quinton de Kock (wk)

Despite producing a terrific 500-run season in 2022, LSG kept Quinton de Kock on the sidelines last year to accommodate Kyle Mayers. He played only four games and made 143 runs with one fifty. The South African batter has been in great form and should start right away in the IPL 2024.

3. Deepak Hooda

Deepak Hooda had a very good IPL 2022, where he scored 451 runs at 32 average and 137 strike rate. He was in the form of his life heading into the IPL 2023 but ended up producing arguably the worst individual season by a batter. Hooda managed just 84 runs in 12 innings at a strike rate of 93. However, he has the ability and should be backed initially in the next season.

4. Devdutt Padikkal

Devdutt Padikkal has had issues with scoring rate in the past but he has the game to do well in the middle order. Last season, the left-hander scored 260 runs at an average of 26 and strike rate of 130. Padikkal has been in good form, smashing 465 runs in five innings in the Vijay Hazare Trophy.

5. Nicholas Pooran

Nicholas Pooran is one of the most destructive batters in the game and has done well around the globe. In the previous IPL edition, LSG sent him to bat down the order. He ended up scoring 358 runs at a strike rate of 173 while averaging nearly 30 and will also be a part of LSG best playing XI in IPL 17.

6. Marcus Stoinis

Marcus Stoinis remains a key part of the LSG side, offering immense firepower in the middle order and a few overs with his medium pace. He made 408 runs in the last edition at an average of 31 while striking at 150 and will be one of the first names in LSG best playing XI for 2024.

7. Krunal Pandya

The left-arm spin all-rounder adds a good value to the team. He was excellent with the ball last season, where he snared nine wickets at an economy of 7.45. Krunal didn't do much with the bat in that tournament but had a good Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy with 323 runs at 64 average.

8. Mark Wood

The England fast bowler could only play four games in the IPL 2023, but claimed 11 wickets at an economy of 8.12 and strike rate of 8.7. Mark Wood has the raw pace and can run through batters when on song. He can also strike big blows down the order.

9. Shivam Mavi

Having let go of Avesh Khan, LSG needed an Indian pace option and they spent INR 6.40 crore to acquire Shivam Mavi. The right arm pacer hasn't done anything of note in domestic cricket but is likely to get game-time in the IPL 2024.

10. Ravi Bishnoi

Ravi Bishnoi, who has been a regular feature in the Indian T20 side, is the frontline spinner for the Super Giants. The leg-spinner picked 16 wickets in the previous edition of the IPL at an economy of 7.74. Bishnoi will be a key part of the LSG bowling attack in the IPL 2024.

11. Mohsin Khan

Mohsin Khan had an excellent season in 2022, where he picked 14 wickets from nine games at 5.97 rpo. He missed the majority part of the previous season due to an injury, only playing four games and picking three wickets at 10.70 rpo. The left arm pacer did well in the SMAT, snaring 11 scalps in five innings at 5.84 economy.

Ayush Badoni (Impact Player)

Lucknow Super Giants could use their impact player option on any of Ayush Badoni, Amit Mishra and Krishnappa Gowtham. The above combination has enough bowling options so having Badoni makes more sense. Last season, he made 238 runs at 24 average and 138 strike rate.
