Lucknow Super Giants vs Chennai Super Kings match preview

Lucknow Super Giants

The Super Giants, led by KL Rahul, are placed third in the table with 10 points and a net run rate of +0.639 thanks to victories in five out of nine matches. They lost to the Faf du Plessis-led Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) by 18 runs in their previous match.

After being put in to field first, their bowlers did an excellent job as RCB managed to score only 126 for the loss of nine wickets in 20 overs. Naveen-ul-Haq picked up three wickets and was the pick of the bowlers for the Super Giants. Ravi Bishnoi and Amit Mishra picked up two wickets apiece. Krishnappa Gowtham got the crucial wicket of Anuj Rawat.

LSG faltered in their batting department as they were bowled out for 108 in 19.5 overs. A few their batters got into double digits, but none of them managed to carry on and make their starts count.

The Super Giants also need to find an apt replacement for KL Rahul, who sustained an injury in the previous game. Rahul came out to bat at No.11, but failed to run. If LSG win their next game, they may go to the top of the table.

LSG possible XI: Yudhvir Singh, Kyle Mayers, Deepak Hooda, Marcus Stoinis, Krunal Pandya, Nicholas Pooran (wk), Krishnappa Gowtham, Ravi Bishnoi, Naveen-ul-Haq, Amit Mishra, Yash Thakur

Chennai Super Kings

The Super Kings, led by MS Dhoni, also have a great chance of reclaiming their top spot in their points table if they win their upcoming match. They are placed fourth in the table with 10 points and a net run rate of +0.329 thanks to wins in five out of nine matches.

But CSK will be keen to make a comeback after losing to Shikhar Dhawan’s Punjab Kings (PBKS) by four wickets in their previous match at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. After opting to bat first, CSK scored 200 for the loss of four wickets.

Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway put on 86 runs for the opening wicket off 9.4 overs. Conway was the star performer for CSK after he stayed unbeaten on 92 runs off 52 balls with 16 fours and a six. Shivam Dube came in and scored 28 off 17.

Among the Kings’ batters, none of them scored a fifty. But PBKS went past the finish line off the last ball. Sikandar Raza stayed not out on 13 runs off seven balls with one four. With three runs needed off the final ball, Raza ran through to save the day for PBKS.

CSK possible XI: Ruturaj Gaikwad, Devon Conway, Ajinkya Rahane, Moeen Ali, Ambati Rayudu, Shivam Dube, Ravindra Jadeja, MS Dhoni (c & wk), Matheesha Pathirana, Tushar Deshpande, Maheesh Theekshana

Match prediction: Chennai Super Kings to win

The Super Kings should be able to win the match. LSG have struggled on the slow and low pitch in Lucknow and CSK should cash in on the same.

Toss prediction: Chennai Super Kings to win the toss and bat first

The Super Kings should opt to bat first after winning the toss as the pitch isn’t going to get any easier for batting.

Man of the match prediction: Ravindra Jadeja

Ravindra Jadeja would not be easy to face on a slow pitch. The LSG batters may end up struggling against the left-arm spinner. Jadeja also has the experience of batting well on such pitches, having played at the Chepauk for quite some time.

Betting Odds

  • Lucknow Super Giants: 2.005
  • Chennai Super Kings: 1.805

The bookmakers think that CSK have a better chance of winning the upcoming match, which is what we also think. The Super Giants have to play out of their skin to beat CSK.
