MI vs RCB – Match Review | Yesterday IPL Match Result

Royal Challengers Bangalore made a bright start to their IPL 2021 campaign after securing a win against Mumbai Indians in a last-ball thriller. After winning the toss, Virat Kohli inserted the opposition in to bat as RCB managed to restrict Mumbai to a decent total in their first innings. While Mumbai fought back with the ball, it was De Villiers's patient innings that helped RCB get out of the jail in the dying moments of the game. Here’s a complete match analysis of how RCB managed to win yesterday’s IPL match against Mumbai in the 2021 IPL season opener.

After winning the toss and putting Mumbai Indians to bat, Kohli’s men began economically, conceding only 12 runs off the first three overs. The disciplined bowling was backed up by some tight fielding as well. Virat Kohli completed a simple run out in the fourth over to dismiss Rohit Sharma. The in-form Suryakumar Yadav came in at No.3 and stitched a crucial 80-run partnership alongside Chris Lynn, who was struggling until then.

Mumbai Indians looked set to post a total of around 180. Even so, regular wickets through middle-overs caused them to lose all the momentum. Furthermore, RCB bowlers executed the bowling plans exceptionally well giving away only 31 runs in the last five overs. Harshal Patel was on point with his yorkers and slower deliveries in the last over. Patel was the wrecker-in-chief as his four overs yielded five wickets to put brakes on Mumbai's scoring rate in the death overs. The Men in Blue could only manage 159 runs in their 20 overs.

Chasing MI’s total of 160, RCB got off to a decent start as they scored 35 runs in the first four overs. Virat Kohli looked in control right off the bat. Mumbai Indians pulled things back as they picked up a couple of wickets in consecutive overs at the end of the powerplay.
While Glenn Maxwell coming ahead of AB de Villiers raised a few eyebrows, the move did pay off as the Australian made a valuable contribution in yesterday's IPL match against Mumbai.

RCB looked in a healthy position to chase down the target until a flurry of wickets tilted the match back in MI’s favor. What followed was a rescue act by AB de Villiers yet again which helped RCB chase down the target on the last ball of the match.
