Both Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) have played since the maiden season of the IPL back in 2008. But they are yet to get their hands on the trophy. The Punjab-franchise also changed their team from Kings XI Punjab, but that did not bring in change in luck for them.
RCB have played in the final three times, but every other instance, they finished as the runners-up. They have had quality cricketers like Virat Kohli, Faf du Plessis and Daniel Vettori as their captain, but none of them have been able to take them to glory.
On the head-to-head count, the Kings are ahead, but the Challengers are not far behind by any stretch of the imagination. In fact, RCB beat PBKS by 24 runs when the two teams last met in the IPL at the PCA Stadium in Mohali.
After being asked to chase down a challenging target of 175, PBKS could only manage 150 in 18.2 overs. Fast bowler Mohammed Siraj won the Player of the Match award after he finished with figures of 4-0-21-4, picking up the crucial wickets of Atharva Taide, Liam Livingstone, Harpreet Brar and Nathan Ellis.

One of the most exciting matches between PBKS and RCB in the IPL was in 2019. In this match, RCB scored a mammoth total of 202/4 in their 20 overs, thanks to an outstanding innings from AB de Villiers, who scored 82 off 44 balls. Parthiv Patel scored a blistering knock up the order with 43 runs off 24 balls.
In response, PBKS started off strong, with Chris Gayle and Mayank Agarwal scoring quick runs. KL Rahul too played a sensational inning as he scored 42 off 27 balls. However, the match took a dramatic turn when RCB's bowlers staged a comeback, taking quick wickets to put PBKS on the backfoot. With PBKS needing 27 runs off the final over, it seemed like an impossible task. However, young batsman Nicholas Pooran had other plans, as he smashed 5 sixes in the over bowled by Marcus Stoinis. In the end, PBKS fell just short, losing the match by 17 runs, but Pooran's heroic innings was one of the highlights of the match.
