The M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru hosted its first match of Cricket World Cup 2023 today and provided a glimpse of what is to come in this tournament. The Australia vs Pakistan result went in favour of the Kangaroos but it was a high-scoring encounter with both sides crossing the 300-run mark. Australia won their second consecutive game while Pakistan went down for the second game in a row.
It was arguably the flattest pitch of the competition so far as the batters ruled the roost right through. However, the bowlers with variations were rewarded as well with Shaheen Afridi and Adam Zampa shined in their respective departments.
As far as the match is concerned, Australia posted a massive total of 367 runs for the loss of nine wickets in their 50 overs. At one stage, they were looking good to go past the 400-run mark but Pakistan bowlers led by Shaheen Afridi did well to pull things back in the last 10 overs picking up six Aussie wickets.
Pakistan started well in response with their openers Abdullah Shafique and Imam-ul-Haq adding 134 runs. But they kept losing wickets at regular intervals post that to eventually get bundled out for 305 runs in the 46th over to lose the match by 62 runs.
