Pakistan and Netherlands are all set to face each other in Match No.2 of the World Cup 2023 on Friday, October 6. The Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad will host the exciting clash.
Pakistan, led by Babar Azam, recently lost their No.1 ranking in ODIs after India beat Australia 2-1 at home. But the Men in Green have the chance of getting their top spot back if they win their upcoming match.
Shadab Khan on playing in India
Pakistan do not have Naseem Shah, who sustained a shoulder injury during the Asia Cup 2023 and missed the bus for the World Cup. As his replacement, Pakistan roped in Hasan Ali, who has played less than 10 ODIs since the mega event four years ago in England and Wales.
Pakistan recently had a torrid time in the Asia Cup after they slumped to a heavy defeat against India and crashed out of the tournament before the final.
They will be looking to make amends in the World Cup, although plenty of their cricketers have little or no experience of playing on Indian soil.
Babar is the No.1 ranked batter in ODIs and needs to lead Pakistan from the front. Mohammad Rizwan scored a hundred in one of the warm-up matches against New Zealand and will be high on confidence. Fakhar Zaman and Imam-ul-Haq need to find their rhythm as well.
The Netherlands is one of the two teams along with Sri Lanka that have come into the World Cup after taking part in the Qualifiers earlier this year in Zimbabwe.
During the Qualifiers, the Dutch team punched above their weight despite not having some of their key players, including Colin Ackermann and Paul van Meekeren.
The team, led by Scott Edwards, began with a defeat against Zimbabwe, but then defeated two-time world champions West Indies.
Logan van Beek smashed Jason Holder for 30 runs in the Super Over and took the Netherlands to a famous win at the Takashinga Sports Club in Bulawayo.
The Dutch team fought hard with the ball against Australia in their first warm-up match. But then, they struggled with the bat after Mitchell Starc picked up a hat-trick.
The Pakistan bowling attack will pose a threat to the Netherlands batters, who need to up their game if they are to pull off an upset.
