India's captain Rohit Sharma has left the possibility open for the inclusion of veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin in the World Cup squad.
In preparation for the ODI World Cup 2023, Sharma revealed that he has held conversations with several candidates regarding the spin-bowling all-rounder role in Team India’s World Cup squad. He emphasized that Ravichandran Ashwin is a name on the management’s shortlist for the position.
It has been reported that the reigning Asia champions are mulling over the decision to include an off-spinner in the lineup for the Australia one-day matches and the World Cup. The choice between Washington Sundar and Ravichandran Ashwin remains undecided.

“The injury happened to Axar at the last minute and Washington was available, so he had to come and perform the role for us. He was cricket-fit because he was part of the Asian Games camp (in Bengaluru). I have been very clear with players about their roles. Everyone is in the loop,” he concluded.
