Read on to learn Afghanistan vs Sri Lanka where to watch details for the 2023 Asia Cup match on September 5.
The last game of Group B and the league stage of Asia Cup 2023 is scheduled to take place on September 5 between Afghanistan and Sri Lanka. Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore will host the two neutral teams. This will be the second neutral game at the venue in three days, with Bangladesh vs Afghanistan also being held there on Sunday, September 3.
This is a crucial game for both sides given the fact that it will also finalise the two teams that qualify for the Super Fours round.
Form guide of Afghanistan vs Sri Lanka
Afghanistan have been brilliant of late in the format with their batters stepping up. Moreover, they have done well against the Lankans, having defeated them on three occasions in 10 matches in ODIs so far.
The team from the island nation, however, will take heart from the fact that they dominate the Afghans in the head to head stats having won six matches so far and also they won the last series against them in June 2023 , coming back from behind after losing the opening game of the three-match rubber.
Sri Lanka started the 2023 Asia Cup on a high, performing brilliantly in front of their home crowd against Bangladesh on August 31 to notch up a comfortable win.
The young bowling attack shot out Bangladesh for 164 despite four of their first-choice bowlers – Lahiru Kumara, Dilshan Madhushanka, Dusmantha Chameera and Wanindu Hasaranga – not available due to injuries.

Matheesha Pathirana led the way with a four-wicket haul while Maheesh Theekshana also returned with two scalps to restrict Bangladesh. The chase wasn’t an easy one for them on a slowish wicket in Pallekele but Sadeera Samarawickrama and Charith Asalanka kept their cool to take the team home with five wickets and 11 overs in hand.
Sri Lanka have their net run rate well placed and looking at the qualification scenario, one would say that they are the favourites to qualify for the next round.
Sri Lanka are the defending champions in the tournament, having won the edition last year, albeit in the 20-over format.
Afghanistan, meanwhile, will have to come up beyond just threatening the opposition. They have gotten close to beating top teams in the recent past, especially from Asia, before bottling the game right at the end.
A recent example of the same was visible in the second ODI of a three-match series against Pakistan when they looked set to defend 300 but Naseem Shah denied them the win, hitting a four to win the game by one wicket with a ball to spare.
