The India vs Nepal result turned out to be a predictable one as India sauntered home to a ten-wicket victory in Kandy on Monday in the Asia Cup 2023 match. But Nepal put up an admirable fight with bat and ball, notably in the early stages of the match. While India shelled three catches inside the first five overs, the Nepal openers, benefitting from the same, decided to throw caution to the wind and put on an impressive display of stroke-making to put Indiai ontot the backfoot. The openers combined in a half-century stand that came in quick time before Shardul Tahkur found the breakthrough for the team.

The wicket put a break on Nepal’s charge, but not their spirit as they kept finding a way to make a match out of it. Aasif Sheikh hit a half-century from the top of the order before Indian spinners wrestled back control led by Ravindra Jadeja. Kuldeep and Jadeja put a leash on the scoring rate and also picked up key wicket as Nepal struggled to 144/6. But Sompal Kami’s 56-ball 48 saw Nepal go to 230, setting up a decent total their bowlers could strive to defend.
Karan KC started off impressive with the ball, beating Rohit Sharma’s bat more than twice and even raising an LBW appeal that was sent upstairs. But after the early trouble, Rohit eased into his gears just like Shubman Gill and the revised target of 145 in 23 overs was a breeze for the openers.
