Today toss prediction: Who will win the toss today?

England vs South Africa head to head: What happened in their last meeting?

The last time England and South Africa played in an ODI against each other was in 1st February, 2023. The match was played at the Diamond Oval in Kimberley, South Africa. It was the third and final ODI of a three-match series and was of little significance to the result of the series as South Africa had sealed the deal winning the first two matches of the series.

The South Africans won the toss and invited the visitors to bat first. Lungi Ngidi proved his captain's decision right by picking up three quick wickets and rocking the English batting very early in the match.

However, Dawid Malan (118 off 114 deliveries) was determined to stay out there and take his team to a good position. He got his skipper Jos Buttler (131 off 127) to partner with him and the duo bailed the team out of trouble with a brilliant partnership of 232 runs from 210 deliveries.

Even after the dismissal of Dawid Malan, Jos Buttler continued his efforts and ensured that England got to a good total. Moeen Ali aided the English captain with a fiery cameo of 41 runs from 23 balls. At the end of their 50 overs, England managed to reach a big total of 346 runs for the loss of seven wickets.

As far as the South African bowling is concerned, Lungi Ngidi was the pick of the bowlers with four wickets from 10 overs at the cost of 62 runs. Barring Ngidi, Jansen picked up a couple of wickets (10-0-53-2). Aiden Markram also picked up a wicket, but gave away 35 runs in his four overs. Tabraiz Shamsi's only wicket in the match came at the cost of 61 runs from his eight overs.

In the chase, Temba Bavuma (35 off 27 deliveries) and Reeza Hendricks (52 off 61 deliveries) gave a good start to the South African team with a opening partnership of 49 runs.

After the openers were dismissed, Heinrich Klaasen (80 off 62 deliveries) played a gutsy knock and got Aiden Markram (39 off 35) to partner with him. But after that South African batting failed to give a strong reply to the lethal bowling of Jofra Archer. Wayne Parnell (34 off 29) gave an effort towards the end of the innings but that was not enough to take the team across the finishing line.

In the end, South Africa were bundled out for 287 runs in 43.1 overs. England managed to win the match by 59 runs and managed to get off the mark in the match count (1-2 in favour of the Proteas).

Jofra Archer was the destructor of the South African batting line-up with six wickets from his 9.1 overs at the cost of 40 runs. Adil Rashid was also upto the mark as he picked up three wickets for 68 runs in his 10 overs. The only other wicket was taken by Chris Woakes, who bowled eight overs for 51 runs.

With one more England vs South Africa match coming up, the fans will have an account of this last encounter in their mind. However, this time it is the World Cup and both teams will be looking to leave the past the behind and concentrate on their performance on the given day. And also the fact that both teams are in absolute need of a victory sets the stage up for this England vs South Africa match to be an exciting affair.
