— Chennai Super Kings (@ChennaiIPL) April 7, 2024
Chennai Super Kings have had a middling start to the IPL 2024. The defending champions won the first two games but then lost two on the trot. CSK have four points to their credit with a net run-rate of 0.517. The men in yellow are coming off a six-wicket defeat against Sunrisers Hyderabad.
Batting first, Chennai couldn't get a good start as their top three struggled to score at a good rate. Shivam Dube gave them a push with 45 off 24 but once he was dismissed, CSK could only score 46 off the last 6.2 overs. Defending 165, CSK bowlers took a hammering at the hands of Abhishek Sharma as they conceded 78 in the powerplay itself.
CSK possible XI: Ruturaj Gaikwad, Rachin Ravindra, Ajinkya Rahane, Daryl Mitchell, Shivam Dube, Ravindra Jadeja, MS Dhoni (c/wk), Moeen Ali, Deepak Chahar, Tushar Deshpande, Matheesha Pathirana
Kolkata Knight Riders
Kolkata Knight Riders couldn't have hoped for a better start to the IPL 2024 after a poor season last year. They have won three out of three games and have an outstanding net run-rate of 2.518. KKR hammered Delhi Capitals by 106 runs in their recent game, where they registered the second highest total in IPL history.
Sunil Narine continued his incredible form and smashed 85 off 39 while Angkrish Raghuvanshi impressed with 54 off 27. Andre Russell struck 41 off 19 and Rinku Singh hit 26 in 8 balls to power the total to 272. Varun Chakravarthy and Vaibhav Arora later picked three wickets each to restrict the opponents.
KKR possible XI: Phil Salt (wk), Sunil Narine, Angkrish Raghuvanshi, Venkatesh Iyer, Shreyas Iyer (c), Rinku Singh, Andre Russell, Ramandeep Singh, Mitchell Starc, Harshit Rana, Varun Chakravarthy
Pitch and expected weather conditions
Chennai's MA Chidambaram Stadium that is the Chepauk has historically been a difficult venue for batting as the pitches are generally slow. However, the two games of this season have seen plenty of runs and very little assistance for spinners. The average batting first score here since last year is 174.
The weather forecast suggests Chennai should be clear and humid on Monday evening with no threat of rain for this game. Expect the temperature to hover between 26-32 degree Celsius during the match-time.
CSK vs KKR Dream11 prediction
Our CSK vs KKR Dream11 prediction for this match
- Wicketkeeper(s): Phil Salt
- Batter(s): Ruturaj Gaikwad, Rachin Ravindra, Shivam Dube, Angkrish Raghuvanshi
- All-rounder(s): Andre Russell, Sunil Narine, Moeen Ali
- Bowler(s): Mitchell Starc, Varun Chakravarthy, Harshit Rana
- Recommended captain: Sunil Narine
- Recommended vice-captain: Ruturaj Gaikwad
Now the important part of the CSK vs KKR match prediction, discussing why we picked the above XI for this Dream11 contest. Starting with the wicket-keepers, Phil Salt is the only one we have picked as MS Dhoni bats too low.
Ruturaj Gaikwad, Rachin Ravindra and Shivam Dube should be picked but they will face challenge from KKR's spin duo. Angkrish Raghuvanshi scored a fifty in the previous game and looks pretty solid technically.
From allrounders, Andre Russell and Sunil Narine have been in incredible form while Moeen Ali can be valuable against a side that has multiple left-hand batters. Varun Chakravarthy is a must pick while Mitchell Starc showed signs of finding his rhythm in the last game. If fit to play, Harshit Rana should be picked for his pace.
As for the C & VC, Andre Russell and Sunil Narine have form on their side and are the most popular choices. We are going with Narine and Ruturaj Gaikwad. Gaikwad hasn't been at his best but has the ability to turn things around.
Match prediction: Kolkata Knight Riders to win
The head to head record between these two sides is heavily in favour of Chennai Super Kings. The men in yellow have won 19 encounters as opposed to 11 by KKR. However, CSK haven't looked at their best this season and the holes in their squad are getting exposed. KKR, on the other hand, are in great form and have several players contributing. KKR have a better bowling unit that matches well versus the CSK batting. Our match prediction is for Kolkata Knight Riders to win.
Toss prediction: Chennai Super Kings to win the toss and field first
The record at the Chepauk in the IPL since 2018 doesn't show much bias for batting first or second. Out of 30 IPL matches played here in the last six years, the team batting first has claimed 16 and the chasing side has won 14. However, chasing remains a wiser option as having a target in front and the dew factor gives an edge. Our toss prediction is that Chennai Super Kings will win the toss and opt to bat first.
Man of the match prediction: Sunil Narine
The KKR spin wizard has rediscovered his mojo with the bat and has been terrorising teams once again. Sunil Narine has taken three wickets in the season but with the bat, he smashed 47 off 22 against Royal Challengers Bengaluru and an even better 85 off 39 versus Delhi Capitals. Chennai do not have express pace apart from Matheesha Pathirana, who predominantly bowls in death overs, and that could go in favour of Narine.
Betting Odds
- Chennai Super Kings: 1.85 (PARIMATCH)
- Kolkata Knight Riders: 2.00 (PARIMATCH)
The bookmakers have Chennai Super Kings as favourites despite the current form of two teams. CSK have 1.85 odds of winning this match whereas KKR have higher odds of 2.00.
