CSK vs RCB match preview

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) will kick start proceedings in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The Chepauk, CSK’s home ground since the 2008 edition, will host the match.

The Super Kings are the defending champions and a lot will be expected of them as described in the CSK team preview for IPL 2024. Having won the title 5 times, MS Dhoni’s men will be looking to start their campaign in the best possible manner.

But beating RCB may not be a walk in the park. The men’s team, led by Faf du Plessis, will be inspired by Smriti Mandhana’s team that won the second edition of the Women’s Premier League (WPL). They will be aiming to take down CSK in their own backyard and start off on a handsome note.

The upcoming CSK vs RCB prediction is expected to be a thriller with both teams having some of the best players in the business.

Chennai Super Kings

The Super Kings have had their fair share of injury concerns even before the start of the T20 tournament. Devon Conway has been ruled out at least for the first half of the IPL after he sustained a thumb injury.

Matheesha Pathirana tore his hamstring during Sri Lanka’s T20I series against Bangladesh and there is no update on his fitness as of now. However, CSK would have heaved a sigh of relief after Mustafizur Rahman left for Chennai.

On March 17, Mustafizur had to be stretched off the park after he reportedly had cramps across his body during the third ODI against Sri Lanka in Chattogram.

The CSK vs RCB prediction will depend on how the Super Kings start from where they left off in the final last season against the Gujarat Titans (GT).

Chennai Super Kings Possible 11: Ruturaj Gaikwad, Rachin Ravindra, Ajinkya Rahane, Daryl Mitchell, Ravindra Jadeja, Shivam Dube, Moeen Ali, MS Dhoni (C & WK), Deepak Chahar, Shardul Thakur, Mustafizur Rahman

Royal Challengers Bengaluru

RCB, on the other hand, have not won an IPL title and will be looking to end their long wait. They will, however, be motivated after how the women’s team played. Virat Kohli is returning after a 2-month break and the shape he is in remains to be seen.

Glenn Maxwell is a clean striker of the ball and on his day, can pick up wickets as well. Faf du Plessis is nearing his 40s, but his hunger to succeed at the highest level has not died down.

Being the leading run-scorer in the history of the IPL, the focus will be on Kohli to deliver. The inclusion of the likes of Cameron Green, Alzarri Joseph and Lockie Ferguson also strengthened their lineup.

The outcome of the CSK vs RCB prediction will depend on how the Challengers get accustomed to the conditions in Chennai.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru Possible 11: Virat Kohli, Faf du Plessis (C), Rajat Patidar, Cameron Green, Glenn Maxwell, Mahipal Lomror, Dinesh Karthik (wk), Alzarri Joseph, Mohammed Siraj, Mayank Dagar, Yash Dayal

Pitch report and expected weather conditions

The pitch at the Chepauk has mostly been on the slower side over the years. Spinners will come into the picture and a high scoring match does not seem to be on the cards. Change of pace from the fast bowlers will also hold a lot of importance. Targets of over the 140-mark can be tough to chase down.

There is no chance of rain for the time being. Temperatures will be around the 29-degree Celsius mark. The humidity will be in the high-70s.

CSK vs RCB Dream11 prediction

Our CSK vs RCB Dream11 predictions for this match:

  • Wicketkeeper(s): Dinesh Karthik
  • Batter(s): Ruturaj Gaikwad, Virat Kohli, Daryl Mitchell, Faf du Plessis
  • All-rounder(s): Ravindra Jadeja, Glenn Maxwell, Cameron Green, Rachin Ravindra
  • Bowler(s): Mohammed Siraj, Mustafizur Rahman
  • Recommended captain: Ravindra Jadeja
  • Recommended vice-captain: Ruturaj Gaikwad

We have picked Ravindra Jadeja as captain keeping in mind the experience that he has at the Chepauk. On turning tracks, the left-arm spinner has every chance of running through the opposition batting lineup. Jadeja can also come in lower down the order and play match-winning cameos.

Ruturaj Gaikwad has been one of the most consistent batters for the Super Kings, a reason why they won the IPL 2 times in 2021 and 2023. If he gets going at the top, it would be tough to stop him. Rachin Ravindra and Mustafizur Rahman can also play a big part in the game.

As per the CSK vs RCB toss prediction, teams should opt to field first. Batting is expected to be relatively easier in the second half, although not a whole lot.

  • Royal Challengers Bengaluru odds: 2.10

It does not raise eyebrows that the CSK vs RCB betting odds are heavily in favour of the Chennai Super Kings. CSK have been a brute force at home since the first season and they will again be tough to beat in favourable conditions.
