Delhi Capitals vs Gujarat Titans match preview

Delhi Capitals

Delhi Capitals haven't been able to put together a string of good performances as they occupy the eighth place on the table. They have six points from eight games, having won three and lost five times in this season. They lost their most recent fixture versus Sunrisers Hyderabad by 67 runs at Delhi.

Bowling first, DC bowlers were obliterated by SRH batters. Axar Patel, who picked 1/29 in four overs, was the only bowler to concede at less than 10 rpo while Kuldeep Yadav bagged four wickets. Chasing a mammoth target of 267, Jake Fraser-McGurk struck 65 off just 18 to put DC in a good position. They were 131/3 in eight overs but the middle and lower middle order couldn't keep up with the rate.

DC possible XI: David Warner, Prithvi Shaw, Jake Fraser-McGurk, Rishabh Pant (c), Tristan Stubbs (wk), Axar Patel, Abhishek Porel, Kuldeep Yadav, Anrich Nortje, Mukesh Kumar, Khaleel Ahmed

Gujarat Titans

Gujarat Titans have had a mixed season so far, winning four and losing as many matches. They are placed sixth with eight points and a poor net run-rate of -1.055. The Shubman Gill-led side is coming off a three-wicket victory over Punjab Kings away from home.

Bowling first, GT conceded a 52-run opening stand in just 5.2 overs but then pulled things back exceptionally well. R Sai Kishore picked 4 for 33 whereas Noor Ahmad claimed 2 for 20 in four overs as they bowled out PBKS for 142. Shubman Gill scored 35 off 29 while Sai Sudharsan struggled, making 31 off 34. GT were in a tricky situation but Rahul Tewatia made an unbeaten 36 off 18 to steer them over the line.

GT possible XI: Wriddhiman Saha (wk), Shubman Gill (c), Sai Sudharsan, David Miller, Abhinav Manohar, Rahul Tewatia, M Shahrukh Khan, Rashid Khan, Spencer Johnson, Noor Ahmad, Mohit Sharma

Pitch and expected weather conditions

The Arun Jaitley Stadium has tiny boundaries where even edges fly for sixes. Seamers get no assistance here, which makes their job a nightmare. Spinners can get some help but short boundaries negate that. In the last game played here between DC and SRH, over 460 runs were scored here.

The forecast suggests that the weather in Delhi is likely to be clear and humid on Wednesday evening. Rain should not be a concern as there is zero chance of precipitation predicted. The temperature is expected to range between 27-32 degree Celsius.

Our DC vs GT Dream11 prediction for this match

  • Wicketkeeper(s): Rishabh Pant
  • Batter(s): Shubman Gill, David Warner, Prithvi Shaw, Jake Fraser-McGurk, Tristan Stubbs, Sai Sudharsan
  • All-rounder(s): Axar Patel
  • Bowler(s): Kuldeep Yadav, Rashid Khan, Noor Ahmad
  • Recommended captain: Shubman Gill
  • Recommended vice-captain: David Warner

Here in the DC vs GT match prediction, we will shed some light on why we picked the above XI for this Dream11 contest. Looking at the batting friendly conditions, we have opted to pack the side with batters.

From the wicket-keepers, we have gone with Rishabh Pant who has been in decent form. Shubman Gill, Prithvi Shaw and Jake Fraser-McGurk have been in good form while David Warner is an IPL legend. Sai Sudharsan is a consistent run-scorer whereas Tristan Stubbs has shown how destructive he can be.

We have picked Axar Patel from the all-rounders section because there is a possibility Gujarat could leave out Azmatullah Omarzai to bring in a specialist pacer at this venue. If Omarzai plays, you can pick him over Axar. From the bowling options, Kuldeep Yadav, Rashid Khan and Noor Ahmad are all class and must picks.

As for C and VC, we have picked Shubman Gill and David Warner. Gill is the top run-getter for his team and has good numbers against DC bowlers. Warner hasn't been in great form but has immense skill set and reputation.

Match prediction: Delhi Capitals to win

The head to head record between these two teams is evenly matched with both Gujarat Titans and Delhi Capitals winning two games each. DC had defeated Gujarat earlier this season so they will believe they can do it again. Both teams have excellent spinners in their bowling attacks and have struggled in the pace department. Batting could be the difference in this game. DC have more destructive batters while GT rely on Shubman Gill. Our match prediction is for Delhi Capitals to win.

Toss prediction: Delhi Capitals to win the toss and field first

The Arun Jaitley Stadium has hosted 26 matches in the IPL since 2018, of which the team batting second has won 14. With flat pitches and short boundaries, chasing would be an easier option here. Our toss prediction is that Delhi Capitals will win the toss and opt to field first.

Man of the match prediction: David Warner

The Aussie batter has not been at his best in the ongoing season but has the ability to turn things around. He has scored 167 runs from seven innings at a strike rate of 135. In his overall IPL career, he has amassed over 6500 runs at an average of 41 while striking at 140. Warner has hit four centuries and 62 half centuries in the league's history. Back him to come good in this game.
